I am using a cloth diaper service, they provide the prefold diapers and I have the bummi wraps in the small size. Now that they are a bit bigger they seem to leak all the time. I feel like I am changing them all the time. I have bought some Kushies for night time and they seem to be ok. I was just wondering what other mom's are using with their prefold's and how they hold up. I am so tired of changing their clothes every time I change a diaper!

    TIA!!!

we use kushies (both diapers & wraps) during the day and disposibles at night. there's definitely a 'knack' to cloth - you have to tuck in all the edges of the diapers under the wraps so the wet doesn't wick through onto their clothes. what size bummies have you got? if the wraps are too small that may be your problem. i love using cloth - so much cheaper, and really easy once you're used to them. good luck!

I have the small size in bummi's and they fit up to 13lbs. DS is now 11lbs and DD is 9lbs 11oz. Do you think I should move up a size? I was using disposables at night but we are/were trying to get out of that so we didn't have to buy too many. I use them mostly for when we are out.

I'm a cloth diapering addict lol. I started out with prefolds and covers (prorap, bummis whisper wrap, and motherease airflow covers), then used some fitteds (motherease one size) I got handed down, and then I discovered pocket diapers and got totally hooked. They fit like disposables but wash and dry as fast as prefolds. My favorites are Fuzzi Bunz and GADs (from www.greenacredesigns.com). I do still do prefolds and fitteds under wool covers sometimes, just for a change of pace, and so I don't feel like I'm wasting them.

I don't know if I actually answered anything, sorry! I got a lot of my info from the cloth diapering board on Babycenter and at diaperswappers.com. Let me know if you have any questions!

Well, since I am using a service, I don't have to wash any of the prefolds at all...they pick up the soiled ones and drop off the clean ones. It saves me so much time and I don't have to worry about running out since I get 140 a week. The only wrappers the service offers are the bummi's. I would like to try the polar fleece ones but they are like $17 each and I would need at least 6 for each baby and I cannot afford that! The kushies seem to work better but I still get leaks.

How do you fold your prefolds? I am folding down the top part about a third of the way then folding in each side to the middle (make sense?). Is there a better way?

There are a lot of ways to fold prefolds, but the only way I keep them from leaking is to use snappis to secure them. If you haven't seen them before - snappis replace pins, they have little hooks that just "grab" the diaper on all sides to hold it on. They're only a couple dollars - I got mine at www.nickisdiaper.com.
For the fold itself - I usually lay the baby on the diaper flat, then fold the (bottom only, part between their legs) two sides in toward the middle, then fold that part up toward their belly button and pull the "flaps" from the back to the front. Not sure if that made sense. Sometimes, with my boy, I do a "bikini twist," where I twist the bottom part all the way around once, then pull it up and secure it with the flaps from the back.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

I use Bummi wraps w/prefolds. I even use them at night with a doubler. Mine don't leak at all, ever. However, they fit my guys perfectly. I think the biggest leak issues people have is when a wrap doesn't fit well. Gaps = leaks. So, if the waist is too big because your baby's thighs are chubby or the leg holes are loose because your baby has a round belly, you should try another brand. If you get leaks at both the waist and the belly, then you may need to move up a size. We didn't move up until 15 pounds but my guys are very slender. HTH!

For my girls I fold the prefolds sideways so the thick center part is all in betweent heir legs, make sense? FOr a boy I would do it the way you are folding already and put the folded down part in the front.

Bummi wraps haven't fit any of my babies correctly yet. We've had much bette luck with Proraps. You can call them (prodiaper.net) an see if they have any seconds in the sizes you are needing, they are about $5 each.

Or if you want to try a few I have some brand new smalls I am going to try to sell. I bought too many (didn't even think that was possible LOL!). Just drop me a PM if you're interested.

We use a diaper service too and love it. I fold the prefolds the way you described except I tuck one flap into the other. We use Dappi diaper covers. I have tried bummis, mother ease and prowraps and I like the fit of dappi the best. They have worked well and they are super cheap. You can get them for $2.99 per cover at a website called babybestbuy.com. Now I think that is super cheap! Good luck and spread the word about cloth diapering to all your friends! It is so easy and good for the environment and babies! Kudos to you for using cloth!
