Any chance of position change?

I'm going on to 29 weeks (yay!) and so far the pregnancy has been uneventful (double yay!). I delivered my first vaginally and would love to avoid a c-section this time as well.

Both twins used to be head down all along when they were really tiny with tons of space. In the last 2 u/s turns out that Baby A has his bottom down, while Baby B is in vertex position. My OB will only go for a vaginal delivery if both twins are in vertex positions. Anyway Baby A's the one who's not in the ideal position.

Today I was told by my OB that I'll most likely be scheduled for a C-section in the 37th week (over here scheduled C-sections are mostly never later than that). She mentioned that most likely this is going to be their positions till birth, but there is still a possibility that Baby A might turn head down towards the end. It really looks & feel cramped up in there but I have 8 weeks to go.

Everything has been running so smoothly so far and I really would like to go for a vaginal delivery. I see nothing wrong in a C-section if that is for the best of the babies. We are, however, concerned about the hospital bill if I have a scheduled C-section BUT go into spontaneous labor before that and have to go for an emergency C-sect - we'll be charged for both a C-section & a normal delivery hospital stay. So I'd rather be ready for a vaginal delivery and if these babies do want to come out anytime before they r expected to, at least I will be able to deliver these lovely babies naturally without a heavy hospital bill.

Anyone has had a similar experience? Will Baby A change position eventually?

This has been kept me down for the entire day ever since we came home from the OB's.

My docs told me that they can still move up until 37 weeks... after that chances of them moving decrease to a possibility of about 5%. Well guess what...mine flipped twice more from 37 weeks 2 days, they switched completely at 37w5 days and then again at 38w 2d... so I'd say never give up hope. Check out the spinning babies website, webster chiropractic and moxibustion are all supposed to be things that help. I've also heard that putting an ice pack where A's head is, and a heating pad on low on your pelvis could help too.

It is definitely not too late for the babies to switch positions. At 29 weeks there is still plenty of room for them to move about. My girls are in different positions every time we go in and I'm 33 weeks. www.spinningbabies.com is a great website for information on how to get babies into vertex position

I hope they flip for you. I tried many things but couldn't get my boys to move. BUT- my situation was different in that A was breech from about 20 weeks. He was NEVER head down, so I didn't have a lot of hope.

My baby A was flipping up until 35 weeks and finally went and stayed vertex at that time. Baby B - she flipped the day before my induction at 38 +1. I have no idea how they can do it with so little room, but they can flip up until delivery.

Pinkdiamonds - this question has been on my mind lately as well. I met someone yesterday who used hypnosis! late in the third trimester to move her baby A from breech position before the birth.

 to you after your doc appointment deflation.

It is possible that the move. My boys were stubborn. At week 26 Baby A, Nathaniel was breech, and baby B William was vertex, by week 28 Nathaniel was still breech and William was transverse. That is the way the stayed the rest of my pregnancy.

The first time around my B was the flipper. He flipped and flopped all the way up until the day of delivery at 39 wks 4 days. I was told by my 1st OB that they could and would never change after about 36 wks due to lack of space and babies being too big. B was the bigger of the 2 weighing in at 7'2 so I can say from personal experience that size and space have nothing to do with it. With this pregnancy A is on the right instead of the left but he is the one already head down. B is again the flipper and he goes from breech to vertex to now laying cross ways in an X position across Baby A. I'm not too worried since I know he can flip right up until delivery. The liklihood of both babies being vertex is so slim that I made sure I found a midwife and Dr this time around that are comfortable with babies being in either vertex or breech positions. THey are both in agreement that the only way they cannot be delivered vaginally is if A is transverse...obviously. LOL! Otherwise we're good to go for a vaginal delivery.

Babies can definitely flip up until natural labor. Mine have proven that. If you can I'd give them a little more time in there. Maybe see if your dr is willing to let you go until 38 wks.

    Thanks. :)

I think DD flipped only at around week 34-35, so I still want to be hopeful!

The cut-off is going to be week 36 to see if both babies are vertex. Otherwise it's a C-sect for week 37. My OB will not deliver breech babies so there's only 1 position they have to be in. Am going to check spinningbabies out!

I did notice we have the same EDD's too! You can also try a chiropractor. There's been lots of success with that in twin pregnancies too.

My baby A is head down and baby B is horizontal (sorry I don't know the proper term). I need him to switch as well to avoid a c-section, although my OB said he could deliver A vaginal and B c-section.. Sorry but I want one trauma or the other. Have any of you had one vaginal and had your DR successfully turn your other baby to also be vaginal?

My girls were baby A breech and baby B transverse at every visit until 36weeks when they were both vertex to our surprise!!. THEN 4 days before they were born at 38weeks, they were flipped back to baby A breech and baby B transverse and stayed that way until the big day so I ended up with a c-section. it is totally not too late for yours to switch!!

My baby A (Kayden) has been head down the entire pregnancy. Baby B (Levi) has been on his butt the entire pregnancy all the way up to 30 weeks. I went in at 31 weeks and Levi flipped so he is head down now!! I have been preparing for a c-section the whole time so it's kind of exciting that I may be giving vaginal birth! I was pretty shocked as the U/S tech told me at 29 weeks it was unlikely Levi would flip and change position.
    Good luck!!

At my final ultrasound (less than a week before I gave birth) both of my girls were head down. Then, on the night I went into labor, Dani (baby B) decided to flip and she was breech. After a quick ultrasound to confirm their positions, my OB gave me the option to try to deliver vaginally with a chance of a c-section. I chose to go with a c-section all around. I'd never had surgery before, but I just couldn't imagine having to recover from two things instead of one! I have no idea when she flipped, but it can obviously keep happening into week 35!

thought i'd update everyone. had my u/s on Monday and baby A is still breech. I told my OB that I am still hoping for a vaginal delivery and she said that he may flip, so we'll just wait and see. next u/s on the 6th when I'll be 32weeks+ and i'm really looking forward to good news!

My twin A - the girl has always been breech, that's why I have a C-section scheduled for Sept. 3rd, unless they decide to show up earlier. My twin B - the boy has been flipping breech and vertex and he was vertex until last Monday I think, I felt him having the hick-ups on Monday and his head was down, but then yesterday when we had the ultrasound he was breech... so he flipped at 36 weeks and a day or two. I felt really bad on Tuesday with a lot of cramps - the doctor thinks it might have been related to him flipping. So they could flip so late also... of course for me it wasn't in the right direction :). Good luck with everything!

We had twin A breach and twin B transverse up to almost 34 weeks. They told us that there was a chance they "might turn - but they dont have much room" so we hada scheduled C section.

They did turn - although it felt like they were goign to come right out of my skin - and it was particularily painful - but the both went vertex.

They were both delivered vaginally 4 mins apart.

I believe that nature had a way of doing what it needs to do - when it needs to do it. Sometimes it needs the babes to stay in a bad position -- for what i dont know. Perhaps optimal growth?? All i know is that with the miracle of having two of them growing in there at once - even for one baby to develop from a simple sperm and egg - you have to trust that your body knows whats best for the babies.

    Good luck !
