I'm 34.5 weeks and the rib pain from my expanding uterus and specifically baby a's head is really killing me and i've had to strttaking one or two tylenol a day... I've tried ice which doesn't seem to help much plus i think the cold makes me more likely to have bh contractions...

Any suggestions would be SO helpful.....

Hi, sorry you're having this rib pain! I had it a lot during my first pregnancy, starting around the 6th month, and practically until the end of the pregnancy. It was indeed excrutiating! The only thing that was helping was to lay down for a while. I think it got better in the last month when my baby changed position and went down.

This is my first time being pregnant with twins and I do not yet have the rib pain, however with my first pregnancy (singleton) I did have the rib pain on one side and the only thing that helped was standing up or stretching. I think I just got used to it after a while. Sorry not much help, but at least you know someone else has felt this too.
    Good luck!

I am having this right now but baby B is my problem child. I have used cold, heating pad and warm baths. Nothing cures it, just makes it go away for awhile. The bath helps the most because my tub is deep enough to lift my belly weight off me for a little bit. Hang in there and know you are not alone.

Ohh just remembering it makes me wince!!

My baby B was so very bad about being a 'rib digger'....I used to put light 'pressure' on where her head was and as odd as it sounds, it helped...sleep was another matter!

Tylonel and laying on the opposite side of the pain also did a bit...but not much, it never really went away from week 26- when I delivered!

Does it go away immediately after birth or does it linger??

I keep reminding myself that i'm in the home stretch, 22 days till my scheduled c-section (if i don't go b4 then of course)

thanks for all the responses... the WORST is trying to wear a bra as the band KILLS me. oh well, 22 more days!

This worked for me too, until about two days before my water broke. I have never felt better than when the docs prepped me for the c section and I was numb. My rib pain went away immediately, but I wouldn'y be surprised if there is bruising, My doc said there is nothing to relieve the pain b/c its not just your ribs, but your spleen and liver that are getting pressure.

Oh, the rib pain, boy do I remember that. It was so bad I remember asking the peri if it was possible for my rib to be fractured or something. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything that helped to relieve it except delivering the twins. It went away completely after that. Hang in there!!!

Just want to mention this so you keep it in mind as a possiblity, If you are having pain only on the RIGHT side right up under the ribs and are also having any kind of gastro-intestinal upsets, you may be having gull bladder problems. While it is most likely it's just the babies it could also be your gull bladder. I was in the hospital, and I called the nurse and said I had intense pain in my right ribs. She said, oh it's just the babies, try to relax!!! Turns out it was a gull bladder attack--I could have killed that nurse! At you're next ultra sound you can ask if your gull badder looks okay, just to be safe.

Thanks for all the responses, the pain is actually more on my left side than the right but thank you for the info on the gall bladder, I never would have known about that!
