Just wondering if anyone has their children in any activities and at about what age you started. I'm just curious what programs are good and what age they can/should start. I was thinking around 18 months, but I ran into someone today that has their newborn in kindermusik. If you are in anything, how do you like it?

    Thanks!

nope, nothing here yet! waaaaay too much work. ;) i think if i'd had a singleton i would have been all over taking baby classes early on, but with two (and with their current nap schedule) it's just too much to contemplate. i do try & get out for a walk or run with them every day so that they're at least not sitting in the same room bored day in & day out. plus, i'm not sure i'd want to take a class with one of me & two of them so i would need to arrange another adult to come as well (which would likely mean my MIL - ugh) so that's another reason i'm holding off. that being said, my brother has offered to come swimming with us so we've been trying to arrange a time to do that in the next week or so. i'll let you know how it goes... :)

I do playgroups, the park, walking, etc. but no organized classes yet. I'm giong to wait until they are older -- maybe in the fall/winter and they are taking one nap a day. :)

Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind me popping in. I just wanted to let you know that I am an owner and director of a Kindermusik studio and want to vouch for how fabulous the program is. It is tricky with two, and my husband and I are already planning how we're going to make it work with our two. But you might check and see if your local program offers late afternoon/early evening classes so you could attend with your husband. It is such a great bonding time and your children benefit immensely from the activities. For the most part, you will see your children "accomplishing" things sooner in conjunction with Kindermusik attendance.

If you have any questions about Kindermusik specifically, feel free to PM me :D Good luck with your decision.

I used to teach a baby storytime at our library and it was a lot of fun. I started bringing my boys to the one in our area when they are about 10 months, but that was b/c it was always during their naptime. I wasn't willing to part with that! We started joining playgroups around 4/5 months. They just hung out and I got to chat with other grown ups. It was (and still is) great!

I started activities when my boys were 16 months old, and walking. From talking to friends, they told me that the baby classes were more for parent socialization, and with two babies, and double the cost, I opted to save my money. At 16 months we did Gymboree classes and a music class. The boys enjoyed both of them!

We stopped doing classes when they started preschool at age 3.

We just do the library reading each week. It's called "infant lap sit" and we sing songs, a librarian reads books, and we say poems while doing some motions with the babies. It's fun!

My local library has a music program once a week for 3-12 month olds. It's a half hour, and it was great (and free too). I took my boys from Jan-April. It did mess with their nap time a little (I had to cut the nap short.), but they loved it. They liked to dance on all fours rocking back and forth, and by the end they would walk around and try to grab the guitar.

We have a preschool co-op nearby that has a 6-11 month class. It starts in September (The boys will be 10 months at that point). It's once a week for two hours, and I'm going back and forth about signing up. A few friends already have, but they only have one baby. It's also from like 1-3 which is naptime for us right now (and seems to be a common one, so I'm not sure why that's the timing). But it sounds like a cool program (lots of parent education), so I kind of want to sign up.

I took my older two to a library song & dance time when they were toddlers (say about 18 months to 2 1/2). Then we sold our extra car and I haven't done any outside activities since, except walking to the park. It was fun while it lasted, but I always felt pretty silly doing all the motions in public. With the twins I'm happy to sing the silly baby songs, just in the privacy of home. ;-) A little bit can be fun, but I really hate to be running around all the time. A quiet, consistent day can be rather dull for me but it seems to suit the kids just fine.
