We have our first ultrasound this Monday & I'm finding myself getting more & more anxious about it as it comes closer. I'm worried that they're going to discover something wrong, either with the baby, or something that may necessitate a transfer of care to an OB, or something that may necessitate a c-birth. I keep having to talk myself down - but I'm honestly tempted to just not go. DH's the one who wants it more than I do (mostly because he wants an official head count) and I know it's not fair at all, but I'm feeling a bit resentful about it.

I think it will be fine once I'm there & see the baby & everything's a-ok, but the lead up is bringing out all my worst anxiety talk. I just wish it were over & done with already!

head counts are good to have ;)

You know this is a good thing, having the U/S you will get to see the baby and maybe even see the gender, Try not to worry

Rachel, all will be well! It's hard not to worry especially when you are pregnant. I used to tell my DH, if I just knew what was going in there all the time, I would be so much better off.
Keep us posted with how it goes

Rachel, I was in full panic mode before each of my 18-20 week ultrasounds. I was just convinced there would be something wrong with my babies. I was so nervous, part of me just didn't even want to go. I know where you are coming from. The only thing that made me feel better about it is that I realized that if they did find something wrong, we would be better prepared to address the baby's needs at birth with proper specialists, the right hospital, etc.. Odds are in your favor that everything is just perfect!!

I got like that before every single u/s when I was pregnant with the twins and still did with this one too. It's all normal and I'm sure it'll be great to see your little bundle of love. Are you going to find out the sex?

Oh man I could not wait for my ultrasounds, I looked forward to them like a kid going to the toy store! I even paid out of pocket for three this time. I envy you for feeling the way you do! I cannot imagine not wanting an ultrasound. I wish I was as calm about pregnancy as you are!! Do you have any strong feelings as to how many or what sex?

If baby cooperates, we definitely want to know! :good: That is one thing I'm excited about - I find it hard when I think about the baby now because I tend to think he...she...it...damn it!

I'm fairly certain there's only one. The line on the HPT was so faint I wasn't sure if it was a line, or a shadow! When I was pregnant with the girls, it was like someone drew on the test with a marker - the line was almost darker than the test line. Also, based on how I'm measuring, my midwife said she would be very surprised if there was more than one in there. On the flip side, Danika did tell me a couple of weeks ago that there were 3 babies in my tummy. :faint:

As for gender, I'm feeling pretty strongly that it's a boy - but I felt for sure the girls were boys too, so I don't think my baby gender radar works very well. :D

Thanks everyone for your reassuring words! :grouphug:

Oh, goodness, I begged for a head count as soon as I got my BFP. LOL. It's natural as mother's to worry about the health of our children, but odds are your baby is just fine. Keep up posted! I hope baby cooperates for you. Becca was "shy" at my 18w u/s and the u/s tech told me to come back in 4 weeks and she'd check again...for free! (Pays to go to a smaller midwife office)

Hi there. It looks like we're at about the same stage in our pregnancies! Congrats.
Anyway, I understand the anxiety, totally. I had my 18-week u/s yesterday. I was equal parts nervous and excited (DH could not get out of work, so I had to go alone, unfortunately).
This, though, wasn't my first u/s during this pregnancy. I had two viability u/s's, given my history and to confirm the number of sacs (they couldn't see a heartbeat during the first one (week 5), but did during the second (week 6)). And, I had the first trimester screening done during the 12th week.
When I talk about the 18-week u/s, the only thing most people say or ask is about gender. I have to tell you, that was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted the heart, brain, stomach, bladder, etc.... to all look right. Gender was a bonus, but very much down on my list.
My (our) personal feeling is that I'd much rather know if something is wrong prior to birth (and if more intensive monitoring is required), than find out at birth.
Fortunately, all of my fears were allayed and everything does look good. That will help me relax a little as times goes on.
I hope the same for you and I bet once you get to your u/s, you'll be so happy you opted for it. Good luck.

I'm sure everything will be fine. I always worried before too. This time I was worried there was 2 in there again because I was so big but it is just one. Good luck!

Everything went beautifully at the ultrasound today! I'm so relieved. We're only having ONE, very healthy, well-growing baby :)yahoo:), my placenta is no where near my cervix :)banana:) and baby is head down :)clapping:) (I know that can change, but I also know that had baby been breech or transverse, it would have just been one more thing to worry about ).

Also - we're having a boy!!!! :babyflips: So excited! I've already started cataloguing names - DH warned me after I'd asked him what he thought of another boy name that he would not be thinking about it anytime soon.
