So I've been noticing I feel super anxious sometimes. Or at least I think it's anxiety. I really felt it last night. They wanted to eat, but gosh they absolutely suck at eating. Both at breast and w/ a bottle. Then leak like crazy with a bottle, they spit up (reflux issues- arching back), they push off of breast. They ALWAYS seem to go to the bathroom right after I change them. I know their actions are totally normal, but I have just noticed this overwhelming feeling sometimes and I'm not sure if it's maybe anxiety. It's just like almost a shakey, hard time breathing feeling. I'm considering talking to a doctor to see what they say.

Anyone else ever felt like this?

it could be exhaustion too. i would definetly talk to your doc about it though if it continues. i have a lot of anxiety and when i get it i will sometimes get short of breath, or shakey but most of the time i feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest. it's hard for me to control but sometimes if i am able to step back and take a lot of really deep breaths it helps.

i think it's perfectly normal to feel this way, especially when dealing with all of these issues. it's very frustrating with dealing with poor eaters that take a long time and fight you. believe me, mine are not good eaters and i have to pretty much restrain them to eat because they arch and kick so much. somedays i just want to turn in my mommy hat because it gets so overwhelming. but that's when i have to step back and take a breath. just realize that this is how it is and move forward.

It does sound like you might be experiencing some anxiety, and I would encourage you to talk to your doctor. Take the pressure off yourself, and let him/her decide what is going on. I would also ask him to check your thyroid levels, as it's very common for them to be wacky PP, and it can cause some of the same symptoms.

Also, we have a Mental Health Forum here at TS that you should check out!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has wanted to throw in the mommy hat so to speak. I will definitely talk to my doctor (my mom has some pretty bad depression and anxiety so it has always worried me). I'll also take a look at the mental health section.

I have had anxiety issues off & on for years and it does sound like that could be what you have going on. Talk to your doctor about it, there are other things that can be ruled out first & there are meds that can help if it becomes necessary.

I agree, it does sound like anxiety and I would talk to your doctor about it. I also agree with having your thyroid checked, mine went crazy after the babies were born apparently. Good luck!

Sorry to hear this Jo :( I don't really have anything else to add other than my boys were also born at 29 weeks and they were terrible eaters at 3 months too. Formula just streamed down their cheeks all the time, they took an eternity to finish a tiny little 2.5 oz bottle, and they spit up a lot. But for the past several weeks they have been taking 5 oz consistently, and we haven't even had to put bibs on them because they suck so efficiently now they never drip formula. And they often times suck down their full bottles within 10 minutes, and sometimes cry for more. So hang tight missy, things will get better VERY soon! I agree with everybody else though, talk to your doctor! It does sound like anxiety to me (my grandmother has suffered from anxiety and depression for 30 years). Maybe your doc can prescribe something that will take the edge off just long enough for your babies to become better eaters then you won't be so stressed and can gradually phase the medicine out? Good luck!!

Re: the reflux....are they on meds? We had severe reflux problems, and I dreaded feeding time before they finally got on the right meds. It was so upsetting for me when they refused to eat, and I would obsess over oz's night and day.

They are on Zantac and have been this upcoming Monday for 3 weeks. It hasn't seemed to make much of a difference, but I have an appointment for the 18th to see what else we can give them or if we can increase from .3ml twice a day on Zantac. They've gained I think over a pound since they were initially prescribed it

 Everyone gave you good advice on the anxiety issue, I hope you feel better soon!

As for the reflux, even a half a lb weight gain can affect how zantac works, it's very sensitive to weight gain. Ask your dr about prevacid. It's not affected by weight so it's a more stable way of controlling reflux. A lot of women have much better results with prevacid than with zantac!

We tried Zantac also, and it didn't do anything for us. Like Danielle said, it is extremely weight sensitive too, so it's probably not doing anything at all for them since they have gained a lb. I would give the ped a call and see if you can either increase it before the appointment, or better yet, try a new med that will hopefully help them more. Reflux sucks!
