I was wondering if anyone had taken antidepressents during pregnancy. I am 30 weeks pregnant with 4 kids at home already. I have been feeling so out of it and emotional. All I am doing is yelling at the kids , which I hate! The dr. gave me a script for prozac. I really want to take it , but everything I read about it says that taking it during the end of your pregnancy can cause breathing problems and more with the baby. I don't know what to do. I was just looking to see if anyone had some stories to share. Thanks!

 I'm sorry you aren't feeling well.

I took an antidepressant during my first and second pregnancies with no ill effects to the babies. The med that I took was actually Paxil, which they now recommend not to take during pregnancy.

By taking care of yourself, you will be taking care of your babies too. Take the medication if you need to.

I've heard that Zoloft is the safest during pregnancy.

Jsansley- I have been having panic attacks lately and Dr wants me to take something for it. I am 28 weeks. Dh is deployed and has been for my whole pg (nearly), and may or may not make it back in time, plus family "issues". I am scared to take it as well. She really wants me to consider it but I'm terrified it will have ill effects on the babies. Thanks for posting the question I would love anwsers too, and it helps to know I am not the only one.

I took Zoloft with my Dd and she ended up with breathing problems at birth and she went through withdrawals. I know most dr's will say that the benefits of the antidepressant for you will out weigh the possible effect to the baby but I disagree. If i would have know that would have happened I would have just dealt with it until after she was born.

Thanks for all the replies. :) I think I am going to try to tough it out for 9 more weeks and then start when she is born. I don't think I would forgive myself if something bad was to happen! Christmas break is now over so I am sure it will be better now that school will be starting.

I was on Prozac for throughout DD pregnancy....I don't remember her having any problems...but I was new mother and had issues with PPD, without the prozac it would have been way worse I am sure. With these boys I am taking Wellbutrin which my OB says is one of the safer meds out there....I don't know if I would recommend going on anti-depressants right away, I had a suicide attempt at 18 and have been on them since, but I still get regular counseling..which has played a HUGE part in keeping me stable. When things feel really bad I alway up my sessions before anything is done with my medications and usually that helps....with that being said...taking antidepressants is always a risk/benefit...what is the risk to the baby vs the benefit to me. Anyway I hope you find some answers...pregnancy is really hard on the emotions..as we all know...Just having Twinstuff has helped me out greatly...
    Take care
