This is simply not going to be an easy pregnancy!! I just received a call from the doctor's office and I have antibodies in my blood. DH is scheduled to do a blood test on Thursday to match up with mine but he and I are both positive.. I'm A and he's O. I googled and came up with a relating antibody to Lupus but I never had issue before... I'm freaking out. Someone please tell me that they were able to have a normal, uneventful pregnancy after a RH antibody issue.
Erykah, I am so sorry that this pregnancy has been so stressful for you. I am RH negative, so I have to recieve a rogham shot at 28 weeks and then again after birth if the baby is a positive blood type. I'm not really sure what your situation will be. It was my understanding that you had to have a negative blood type for there to be any issue because only a negative blood type would attack a positive blood type. Again, we could be talking about completely different issues. When do you go to the Dr. again? Could you call and talk to someone about what this could mean for the pregnancy?
I've only ever heard of it in reference to Rh- patients as well. Although I did read once that there is also antibodies that women with O+ blood can also develop...but I don't much about it. Hope everything turns out fine...keep us updated!
I did call back... I spoke to the nurse who seemed un-knowledgeable and since I go in on Thursday anyway, I just have to wait. I did spend the afternoon googling... there are 46 other red blood antibodies that can cause a reaction but most common are: Anti-D occurred in 25 percent of the samples, anti-Kell in 28 percent, anti-c in 7 percent, anti-Duffy in 7 percent, anti-Kidd in 2 percent, anti-E in 18 percent, anti-C in 6 percent, anti-MNS in 6 percent, and anti-Lutheran in 2%. Alloimmunization What I do know is that until DH has his blood tested we won't know for sure which is causing the antibodies to be present. I'll tell you, this has been a very challenging pregnancy and I'm only 8 weeks!
wow. I actually had to look at that article on that last one!! I thought the anti-Lutheran might've been a joke!! Where did they come up with a name like that! I really hope it turns out to be nothing too much to worry about. Amazing how us Rh+ gals never thought we needed to worry about the antibody thing.... I never even knew this problem existed outside of the Rh- thing. I do think about it for my girls...one of them is Rh-.
We just dealt with something similar but it was after my daughter was born. She developed Jaundice as a result of ABO incompatibility. She is A+ and I am O+. She was fighting off my blood cells and had to be treated for Jaundice for 3 days. I was never tested for antibodies so I don't know if it showed up in my blood. Hope this helps! Tracy

My jaundiced twin is B+, the other is A+, and I am O+! Sooooo weird! My husband is obviously AB+~ haha. But nobody ever told me that Izzy probably had jaudice due to the ABO incompatibility. It was so funny to be told "baby A" was B+ and "baby B" was A+. They are polar opposites even to this day!
