Antibiotics?

Okay I really should be in the Preg. AFTER twins but I thought i would get a quick response here. I forgot... can you take antibiotics while pg? I am about 95% sure I have strep throat and I feel absolutely awful! I am trying to "hang in there" until Monday so i can go to the Dr... dh actually suggested that I take a prescription of his for antibiotics... which I dont believe is ever a good idea! But if I go in can they give me something to make this go away... whatever I am swallowing is making me very sick to my stomach, my throat and ears are just burning and I am really achy (of course the upset tummy and sorness could be from being preggo) ANYWAY... TIA for all the advice I get. Now in the mean time the only thing I can take is Tylenol right? (Jeeze you would think I have never done this before! LOL)

 

Yep, antibiotics are fine while pregnant. I had an ingrown toenail while pregnant and the antibiotics helped clear it up. Hope you feel better. (I would however wait until you see a doctor to be sure. Can you go into urgent care or anything?)

 

I took Zithromax several times while pregnant...

 

Get some meds--strep is something you don't want to mess around with!!

 

I took antibiotics several times during a few of my pregnancies with no problems. I agree with pp, don't take dh's since you can't be sure it's exactly the right thing you need right now. If you can get into urgent care, that would get the meds going sooner but you should be okay to go in tomorrow. Strep can be nasty if it goes on too long but a few days is okay. I hope you feel better fast!

 

I took antibiotics for a UTI while pregnant. I hope you can get to a doctor soon!

 

Can you call your doc and get them to call you in script of your own? Antibiotics are not something you want to share. Your doc should gear the dosaage and exact pill to you. I used to try to talk my DH into taking leftover meds from me when he would get sick but my best friend is a pharmacist and has since warned me about how not good that is. OOOPS!

Do get some meds though. I know that's miserable for you.

 

Thanks ladies. I am getting in tomorrow ASAP... I havent even been to see my OB yet but he is my regular and I am sure if I cant get an appt. tomorrow with our local PA then he will call me in a script. My next question is this... I know strep can do some nasty things but how bad can it be for the baby... any specific things it can do (like defects)?? Thanks again.
