If you took or are taking any anti-nausea meds, at what point did your dr. prescribe them for you? Did they actually help?

I experienced no m/s or nausea when I was pregnant with my twins...however, this time around is a different story. I started feeling nausea the day before I even got a positive pregnancy test. It's gotten progressively worse in the past week or so. The 95 degree weather and extreme humidity don't help it at all either. I feel like the only time I feel "good" is when I'm sleeping.

I'm still eating and it's not bad enough to cause weight loss, however, I'm only eating 2 meals a day (and sometimes something small for breakfast), but every single time I eat ANYTHING, it makes me feel worse. I can't tolerate any form of veggie right now and I've basically been living on grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, pasta and any form of bread/carb that I feel like eating.

I'm worried b/c we are going on vacation Friday - Wednesday. it's supposed to still be really hot and all of the food is going to be cook-out type food. We are going to a campground and staying in a large cabin with my whole family. The cabin is air-conditioned, but the outside is not :( It's still supposed to be really hot. I'm just worried that I will feel like crap the entire time we are there and not want to eat anything that's there. I'm having a hard time coming up with the food I want to bring for the meals I'm responsible for b/c what I want is NOT what everyone else will want to eat...that and the fact that I don't want to smell it cooking.

So, would it be worthwhile to call my dr. to see if there is something I can get? I mean, I've not vomitted (although I felt like it twice this morning) and I'm not losing weight.

    Any suggestions?

I don't know about prescription drugs, but I've heard that there are morning sickness otc meds at Babies R Us. A store employee can help guide you to them. I hope you feel better.

I took diclectin(prescription) for the first trimester and it helped tremendously. Diclectin is a combo of vitamin b6 and an antihistamine so it works great but made me drowsy. Without it I never would have been able to function at work. I ate alot of baked potatoes and milkshakes the first trimester! Good luck to you and hope the barfies go away soon!

I am sorry you feel so crummy. While it does not hurt to ask your doctor, it is my understanding that those drugs are reserved for extreme circumstances of morning sickness (constant vomitting, dehydration, weight loss). I wish I had a magic cure. I threw up at least once a day, and I know how awful it is. There was nothing my doc would give me.

I am in Ohio, too, and this weather is AWFUL!!! I was on prescription suppositories to help me with nausea. I was also on Zofran and others while I was in the hospital but that was an extreme case when I didn't urinate for 24+ hours because I was so sick. Eating small meals very often is supposed to help. Honestly, nothing helped me too much except getting past my first trimester but I hope you find something that works. As far as your vacation, stay inside and cool. I would take crackers and see if someone else can help with the meal you are supposed to be planning. Believe it or not, even in the heat hot chocolate and mashed potatoes helped me. Good luck!!!

I was on a prescription (sorry can;t remember the name!!) But it knocked me out!! I was throwing up at least 3-4 times a day for about a month, lost 14 lbs!! and they prescribed this. I remember calling in to work, feeling so sick, at 530, and I took one of those and I slept until 4 in the afternoon!! After a full nights sleep!! When I woke up I was still feeling drowsy!! I will occasionally take half the pill now, to help settle my stomach and to hel sleep!!

but I wouldn't recommend it if you are still working!

This is my first post here. I too have been feeling really sick, and eating (although I feel hungry) makes it worse. I just figured it was something I had to deal with. My friend suggested preggie pops from babies R Us. I haven't tried anything yet, I'm just hoping the second trimester will be better.

diclectin is not avalible by persription in the US - but it is the only anti-nausa medicine that is a "class A" drug according to the FDA. I asked my OB - and he OK'd me "making my own" -- basically its a half a unisom tablet (not the gel kind) and 25mg b-6 - 2-3 times a day. It did make me sleepy in the beginning, but after a while, i got used to it - and it was ok. it did help -- i wasn't 100%, but I felt about 80% better -- it did have to be vigilant about taking it though = if I missed a dose, it was HORRIBLE. I've also heard rave reviews about zofran from others. I did try phenergan as well (percription) but I didn't find that it worked all that well (the unisome/b6 combo was MUCH better) == I would talk to your OB - and see if they'd be OK with "do it yourself" anti-nausa medication. My sister is a pharmasist and she got me a whole thing on the anti-nause med - the side effects, ect from one of her publications. If you'd like, just pm me with your e-mail address, and I'd be happy to send it to you....

    good luck!

  11. I also used zofran (prescription) and I also used sea-bands. You can find them at a walgreens and they are only 10 bucks. Hope you feel better! It would be yucky to feel bad out in the heat.... :bad:

I have plenty of M/S experience!! :( The first thing they tell you is b vitamin and 1/2 unisom (sucks because you are GROGGY!!!) then when that doesn't work they have a few things they can prescribe. IF you have GREAT insurance, I recommend Zofran! Gave me a LIFE!! IF you aren't actively vomitting a lot they might not give it to you..... worth a shot!!

I ate fruit and ice cream shakes a lot and fruit and fruit OH and pizza! GOOD LUCK! I HOPE IT GETS BETTER SOON!!!! (maybe it's a BOY!!! :D )

my doc gave me a prescription and i took it for one day, but it made me so groggy that i couldn't function. i decided i could live with feeling nauseous 24/7 and throwing up every day. and then, magically, it ended at 14 weeks to the day.

i recommend you try to get an rx and try it. hopefully, it'll work better for you than it did for me.

Oh my, yes! With the twins my morning sickness was barely an issue. I'd eat some saltines and sip some water for the whole 2hrs it bothered me each morning.

But with this crazy boy, I was SICK. Not vomiting but extreme nausea. It got to the point where I couldn't stand to move or sit/stand upright and had had to call DH to come home and help with the girls a couple of times. I hadn't lost weight.
When I told my Dr, he gave me Zofran.

I want to echo Di's sentiments about having good insurance though. Have them write it for the generic, too. My 20 pills of generic Zofran was $900. We had to pay 20% of that which comparatively is a good deal but, wow, almost $200 for 20 pills? It worked wonders though.

Some other things that helped lessen it a little for me were sipping ginger tea (I found a gourmet decaf ginger tea at my grocery store. It was loose tea and a PITA to make but it was worth it.), eating things with ginger or peanut butter like ginger snaps or peanut butter on toast, and sipping water.

I was given Zofran at 10 weeks because of the extreme morning sickness. It was a miracle drug and I was on it until around 20 weeks.

It is expensive though so hopefully your insurance would cover it. With my insurance, it was still almost $2 a pill! Well worth it for me though.

You poor thing, yes nausea was the worst part of early pregnancy for me. I couldn't function for a while there. Please call your doctor at least to inquire!! I did and they suggested just what Vikki said, the B6-Unisom combo. I tried the b6 alone first and that helped with the unisom only at night. I actually still take the Unisom just to help with sleep.

I feel so bad for you its a horrible feeling I felt nausea 24/7 for about 6 months. I didn't take meds (not sure if they'll give unless u're actually throwing up and losing weight - but they may).

Anyways food wise I found I could only eat white/beige food. So bread, french fries, crackers for sure no veg, sometimes I could manage an apple. Of course prenatal vitamins. the vanilla ensure.

Did u try the peppermint tea yet?? it really helped me.

Also on ur trip u will probably have to stay inside a lot the heat won't be the best for sure.

Good luck, hope u're feeling better soon

I took my first anti- nausea pill today, I am 8 weeks and 3 days. It was Phenegran. It deinfinately worked but made me so tired I had to take a nap. I've heard also that those wristbands people wear for seasickness are helpful. I haven't actually tried them though. I live in Ohio too and it has been MISERABLE hot! Hope you feel better soon!
