In one of the previous thread, I was reading that some of your children started walking at 9, 10, 11 + months. I was wondering if anyone did anything special to get them going and motivated. Did you do the walking while holding hands, walk behind toys, or something else? Just curious  thanks!

For my DD, we did not do anything special for her, once she started pulling up and cruising, she was off and walking. My DS is a different story though. Once he started pulling up and cruising, he would would not leave any place where he did not have a grip on something. So we practice walking around holding our hands and he has a push toy that he can push and walk. For him it is a confidence issue and he is just beginning to take a couple unsure steps at a time. So we just keep praising him for what he does do and hope to build his confidence. All babies walk at different times, good luck to you when they start and they will :)

We never did anything special with any of my kids. Yes we helped them walk sometimes and they used walkers, and push toys but that was it. John walked at 7 mos., Kevin 10 mos and Patrick 11 mos. I think it's just the kid. Every one of them is different and unique.

No we didn't do anything special. In fact two weeks before they started crawling "like a real baby" all they did was scoot around (army crawl, roll, etc). Then all of a sudden they could sit up, crawl, pull up and cruise. This was at 9 months and between 10-11 months they started walking.

Every baby is different and from what I've heard it also depends on genetics. I started to walk at 9 months old so we knew it was possible before they were a year.

We didn't do anything special for them, other than cheering at them when they took steps on their own and offering help and encouragement to try taking a step away from a support when they'd pull themselves up and take a step or two.

I first showed my DS how to stand up holding on using an upside down laundry basket in the middle of our living room floor. Then I let him use that for practice. Thats how it started for us. Once my DD saw my DS she quicky learned too.

We arent officially walking yet but we've started taking 2-4 steps unassisted at a time- yay!!! They do push their push toys all over the house and furniture cruise using walls etc.

With my daughter she had not stood unassissted or taken any unassisted step at 11 months but we had three people in a circle and stood her up and held her hand and let go and she walked to the other person across from her (two steps) We did that for a few mins and then she was off walking :unknw: With the boys I have been standing them up in front of me and first letting them hold both my hand and walk to me and then one hand and now no hands. They can take up to 5 steps. I'm guessing they will be walking full time by the end of next month. If your boys haven't pulled up yet then I would say not to worry about walking. Have they started crawling yet..or are you thinking they might just go straight to walking?

I used to try to get Amelia to walk to me. I would stand her up and then say "walk to mama" and clap and cheer for her when she took the tiniest step.

DS took his first step last week, I put him standing one foot from the couch and he just took a step towards it. He's still working on standing unassisted (can do it one minute at a time now), so I guess it's coming but we're not quite there yet.

DD is nowhere close, as she's still only standing on her toes :(

We didn't do anything special. I was in no hurry for walkers, but amazingly enough, now that they are walking, things are SO much easier! My girls were 28 weekers and started walking at 12 1/2 months actual age, and 9 1/2 month adjusted. They both started walking well within days of each other.

I did everything I could think of and my girls still didnt' walk until 15 months!

Honestly when I look back, I should have not worried and just relaxed! They will walk when they are ready :)

They scoot rather then crawl. They can still get from point A to point B in good timing without a problem, but just don't get up on their knees and take off..

I did NOT encourage early walking. I didn't tie a weight to their bums as I joked that I might but I didn't get them push toys either. Mine started cruising at 7 months and were wall-walking by 9. They didn't get confident enough to cross a room until 10 months. Once they did, we did the walk between mommy & daddy game to build their skills and they were off and running in no time.
