OK. I decided this morning that we are buying a stroller this weekend. My twins are 4 months adjusted and all we have right now is the Snap N Go which is great for quick trips but not so great for walks (they are starting to hate being in their carseats!). So...it's time to buy a real stroller. I know I want a side by side. And I don't think we need a jogger (we're not really athletic people). It'll be used for walks around the neighbourhood, the mall, etc. Can you please all tell me what stroller I should buy? I have no idea and have had no time to do any real research.

We also want to buy 2 single strollers for the same types of usage as the SBS. Any rec's on these as well?

Please, please tell me what to get!

    Thanks!
    Cary

It really depends on whether you'll use it more for walks, or whether you'll be hauling it in and out of the car for errands....I think most people buy two different strollers for these things.

For the latter category, I have the Inglesina Twin Swift, and have been happy with it for the most part. It's very light (for a twin stroller!), folds easily, and is no big deal to haul in and out of the car. It's comfortable for the babies. The sunshade stinks (not nearly big enough, and keeps popping off when I fold it), but that's really the only bad feature.

Lots of people like the Maclaren or Combi or Peg Perego SBS -- I would just look at these at Babies R Us, and see if one appeals to you. Make sure you fold/unfold it and lift it, and even put your babies in it to see how they fit.

I haven't needed a jogging stroller so far, which would be a lot sturdier, pushes great, nice for trails and uneven roads (even if you're not technically jogging!), and very comfortable for the babies....downside is they're very heavy, and a pain to fold/unfold and fit into the car. There was recently a thread about the Bob Dualie, which gets great reviews, and I've also heard good things about the Baby Jogger....

Mountain Buggy and Valco are another two brands that are mentioned often. If you're interested in going this route, I'd find a place where you can compare them....

Thanks for the replies so far. It sounds like maybe a jogging stroller might be a good idea for walks? Even if we're not really athletic?

I only have two SBS, no singles. We have the Combi Twin Savvy. Love it, but wish the baskets were bigger. We also have the INstep Safari which I love for walks and going to fairs and such outside.

We just bought a jogger for walks last week. We do walk a lot, but we also figure that our nice MacClaren won't get ruined wheels (maybe that's something for you to think about). We were planning on keeping it a long time b/c it takes up to 55lbs. of weight on each side. You can also use a jogger at the zoo, fairs, etc. where you would be outside and walking a lot. Just some thoughts. HTH.

Oh, the hours i've spent on stroller research! If i had a nickel for each one i'd be able to pay for college for both girls!

What pp's said - it depends on what you'll be using it for. I got a peg perego twin aria from craigslist - it's about a two year old model, but i wasn't willing to shell out the $$ for it new. Frankly, I don't love it; it's EXTREMELY light, because it's made of plastic. I find that the wheels catch a LOT, and my girls have a small weight differential, so it's not that. So pushing it in stores and such can be a real drag. On the plus side it's easy to haul in and out of the car, the basket is pretty good for quick shopping, thought it can't take a LOT of weight (no big boxes or bottles of laundry detergent!). The sunshade is pretty worthless.

I also sucked it up and paid the big bucks for a baby jogger city series - it has four sets of wheels instead of one big wheel in front like a pure jogger. But you can control it so it can swivel if you are on city streets or shopping - it's very wide but i have never found a store door I cannot get through - and you can lock it for a straight ride if you are doing a light job or a long walk somewhere on even terrain. It goes offroad beautifully - i haven't jogged with it in the mud but other than that it's great. It's very sturdy - and it weighs a ton. 34lbs; i can haul it in and out of the minivan but it's a good arm workout. It rides like a dream; my one complaint (ok, two) is that it has no snack tray and the girls are 'separated' by the little divider. But - the handle height is adjustable so it can accommodate my Dh and me w/out either of us feeling strained in the shoulders

IF you go that route spend the extra $$ and get the 2005 and a HALF series; it has a THREE PANEL sun shade, which makes all the difference. I also tried the bob revolution dualie; i really like it but it was also heavy.

There is a site called strollerswap.com - i havent't bought from it but lots of folks do. I know that i thought i'd be able to get by with just one stroller, but - naaah.

for single strollers i would definitely go the craigslist route, esp if you are spending real $$ for an SBS (unless you have unlimited funds, in which case get two really high end light ones!)

it can be very daunting. I know before i bought i went to BRU and tried the girls in them, saw how they opened/closed, how much they weighed, etc.. Good luck!

One thing i didn't realize is how much i would miss seeing my girlies' faces once they were in an sbs....i miss my snap-n-go for that reason!

Thanks everyone for replying. I really like the look of the Baby Jogger City Series...I'm going to have a look at those on the weekend i hope! I'm thinking we'll start out with this and then decide what other strollers we'll need. WOW...who would have thought that I'd need MULTIPLE strollers!?!?

I SWEAR this is the BEST stroller ever invented!!! Its like a single stroller only its a double. Like the bunk bed of strollers. Its two seats stacked one on top of the other. It really is worth the $500. Oh, right now they are on sale for 389 at Baby bungalow. http://www.babybungalow.com/phtebapr.html

There are several things I like about this stroller

    1. The front week can be swivel or lock in place and become a jogger
    2. Its small like a single stroller but its a double. (this is my favorite feature)
    3. You can put the bottom seat down and turn it into a bed for good napping
    4. It comes in cool colors!!! LOL

Seriously, this is worth every penny. I am so thrilled to have mine.

The only drawback is that you can only fit one carseat in it, but the size of this outways that in my opinion.

I also have the baby jogger city series! I cant say enough about it. However, as months went on, there were times I wanted to do a super quick errand and all I wanted to do was wip out a light stoller for a quick store stop. I ended up getting the combi SBS to keep in my trunk and that is what I now take the boys shopping in. I bought one online because the one at BRU did not have a snackholder. I keep my baby jogger in the garage for walks or if we know we are going on an outing where there will be a lot of walking, we put the jogger in the car. If it was up to my husband, he would use the jogger as our main stroller.
