I was at the grocery store, with no kids in tow, but was buying baby food. As I was going through the cash, the cashier and I were chatting and our conversation went something like this....
Him: "Oh, you must have a baby, do you, with all of this baby food?"
Me: "Yes, actually I have two babies, they are twins"
Him: "well, how do you tell them apart?"
Me: "Oh, they look nothing a like so it is very easy"
Him: "well they must be a boy and a girl then"
Me: "no, actually they are two boys"
    Him: "and they look different?"
    Me: "Yep, totally different"
    Him: "are you sure?"
    Me: "Yep, 100 % sure"
Him: "Well, I have NEVER heard of that, are you sure they look different?"
    Me: "absolutely sure"
Him: "well, I guess there is a first time for everything"

I just walked away chuckling..I guess I am the first person on the face of the earth to have same sex babies, that look NOTHING alike..and YES, I am sure! :D

From what I've read on this board about strange comments, a lot of people think that fraternal twins must be b/g and that all same sex twins must be identical. My boys are fraternal but I still have a lot of people ask me how I can tell them apart. I always just say, "A mother can tell..."

That's so strange.I guess they never heard of 2 siblings not looking identical either :)

That's funny...but it's true though, people assume that if your twins are frats they MUST be b/g. And, if they are same sex, they MUST be identical!

I cant even tell you how much this makes me laugh since the same thing almost happened to me!!!!!! its a different story, but OMG...

I was preggo (very much so) and online at the grocery store...the lady in front of me asks me when Im due...I tell her its not for another 2 months, and she gasps, and asks the inevitable...OH!! THERE MUST BE MORE THAN ONE!! HAHAHAH!!! I said yes, actually, Im having twins..2 boys. She says...OH..thats great!!!! Are they Identical or the other kind?? I said, yes, they are fraternal...She then asks me the difference and I tell her, 2 sacs...and she asks me if they will look different (like I knew then), and I said most likely...she said, OH, ok, then their not REAL twins!!!...I paused, and said, Well, I have one in my ribs, and one on my bladder, so, they are pretty real to me....

She goes on and on apologzing for the dumb comment saying she didnt mean it that way blah blah blah...She leaves FINALLY!!! (UGH, she was one of those really loud women with too much blue eyeshadow and dragon lady nails)...As I get up to the register, the lady looks at me smiling, and says (forgive me, my quotes dont work) I guess, soon you will have your hands full huh? I said, yeah, I guess so... She then replies, Well, since they arent REAL twins, then you should be OK...

    I never laughed as hard!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, yours made me think of that and laugh twice as much!!!!

I had that conversation with a waiter one time but the twins were with us and when I finally convinced him that they were indeed twins even though they didn't look alike he responded with "Is that normal?".

 Since my mouth often bypasses my brain, my instant comeback to this would have been, "More normal than you!"

These are so funny! I can totally relate because the boys look nothing alike and Spencer is bigger so people really question me - it never ceases to amaze me what people will say!

My husband and I thought of a whole slew of comments for people when they ask if our Fraternal twins, who look nothing alike, are twins, including...
"NO... they we just picked this one up at the hospital on the way out."
"Nope... this ones 12 months, and the other one is 18 months... (then watch them do the math)"
    ... also... venting...
why, when my girls are both wearing pink dresses, do they ask "which one is the boy?"...
and for the all time stupidist comment of all...
    them: "are they identical?"
    Me: "No"
    them: "are they fraternal?"
Me: NOPE (then they stare off with a strange confusion)

OMG... to funny I had the same thing happen to me but a bit different....

Dh and I took the kids to a village type thing and took them on a boat ride. The captain came up and was talking to the boys and telling up how he has twin grandchildren b/g then proceeds to tell us they we have "real" twins.. b/c they are identical...
    some people!!!!

My grandma doesn't think my boys are "real" twins since they were conceived through IVF.

I love these comments. I have b/g twins, so I don't get as many of these comments, but one of my favorite comments was how they look "95% identical", accoding to one lady at Costco (check out my avatar, they don't look that close!!).

Now that is a classic....ask her if she has held them lately or hugged them....that we did not know they were made of plastic.
