Does anyone feed their babies their solids right before their bottle? I looked at the 6-month schedule post and saw that most people feed their solids at different times than their bottles (therefore feeding every 2 hours). Is this because once they are done their solids they may be too full for their bottle? The reason I ask is that the two days that I have fed them cereal, I gave them their bottle directly after and it didn't seem to affect how much formula they drank. Who knows, perhaps this may change when I start giving more solids. Just curious!

I am also posting this because LG had a post about having to feed her babies every 2 hours now. I was wondering if it was possible to keep them on a 3-hour rotation?!

I think that is why most people do it that way, that is why I did it that way. If they are still drinking their bottles after eating their solids, I would go with it! It will make your schedule a little easier to deal with!

I feed my babies solids before their bottle...the only time I don't is when they are so hungry they just cry the whole solid feeding...I then give them a bottle and try to feed them solids afterwards...

good luck! just experiment and see what works best for you!

Mine always had a bottle first... except at bed time. They had dinner time solids, then a bedtime bottle.

It's funny that you posted this. I was just going to ask a similar question. We do solids after every bottle and they take 8oz (every four hours with three meals). Right now though I'm doing "dinner" solids before their bedtime bottle BUT they have started crying thru most of the solids feeding at dinner time. Guess they are starving? I think I'm going to have to switch it up. Just worried that they won't sleep as long til morning. right now we are pushing 6ish, and I'd love a 7ish wake up call, ya know?

I think as long as your babies are still taking their bottle afterwards, then it's no big deal which you do first. I like doing the dinner solids before their bottle because it tends to keep the food down once they get in their bed. They are famous for spitting up lovely orange carrots or sweet potatoes all over their sheets...nice stains! LOL!

I totally agree. I was one of the crazy ones who was obssessed with everyone else's schedules and was making myself a wreck wondering why I couldn't figure all this out. And then I started paying attention to my babies. What worked best for us was to give them a bottle with solids a 1/2 hour later. I too felt like I was always feeding them when we were doing it 1-2 hours after the bottle, that's why I went to a 1/2 hour later. I couldn't agree with Jen more, experiment and do what works best for you. Good luck!

  7. Once we started solids, my girls would not take their bottle following the solids. It was more important to me that they get the nutrition from their formula, so we have always given a small bottle directly before their solids three times a day.

I personally couldn't do feedings every 2 hrs. But you have to do what works best for you and your little ones!

Thank you so much for asking this question. I was wondering this too! I personally found out that if I feed them solids first they won't take their bottle afterwards so I tried giving them a full bottle and then feeding them solids right afterwards and they ate it all. So this worked for us. Just find out what works for you! HTH! ;)

I feed solids first and then bottle. All my kids were good eaters so it never affected them. Also if they don't want the bottle right away the next feeding they would get a bottle. My son right now gets a bottle after his cereal in the morning but only a 6oz instead of the usual 8. Lunch he doesn't get one (trying to get him used to a sippy cup, but it's not working), and then about 2hrs later he gets his 8oz bottle. He then later gets some food for dinner while eating with us and before his bed he gets his cereal and another 8oz bottle. He also gets a bottle when he first wakes up before his breakfast then about two or three hrs later is his breakfast (depends on when he wakes up).

But if what you are doing works for you and they are still drinking and eating then stick with it. If they seem like they aren't drinking anymore then change it up.
