Did any of you get good sleepers (i.e. waking maybe 1 time to nurse at 9-10 months) without doing any type of sleep training?
We are still on the every 3 hour eating overnight at 8 months.
    I don't think I can do CIO

    Any suggestions welcome

Nope. My son was a terrible sleeper, but you have other options other than CIO.
Try "The No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pently. She gives great advise and ideas on how to gently help your baby sleep better. LOVED it! Good Luck.

I'm wondering about this too...if we don't do any sleep training will this correct itself.

I think you'll get more responses in FY so I'm going to move this topic.

No sleep training here... boys started sleeping through night at 3 mo all on their own. we have to wake them up to eat +O (and they are almost 6 months old)

I had to do sleep training with DD, but DS figured it all out on his own, he is still my better sleeper, when he's tired he all but askes to be put down. Every 3 hours at 9 months is alot. . .it sounds like it may becoming more of a habit vs. need to eat thing at this point.

[SIZE=10pt]DD usually STTN ~ if she does wake up she eats and is right back down. DS usually wakes up 2 times a night to eat. He'll down his bottle and go right back to sleep.

We didn't really do any sleep training. We just follow their cues. As soon as I see their getting tired ~ we put them down. Occassionally they'll cry for a few minutes (no longer than 10) and they're asleep.

Hope it gets better for you :hug99:

At 8 months, babies no longer physiologically need to eat in the middle of the night. Sounds like they are now "trained night wakers" and are waking up out of habit. This will probably require some sort of sleep training to break the habit and let you and them get a good night's sleep....

Yes. We didn't do any sleep training and both of my girls started sleeping through the night by about eight months. They were breastfed until almost seven months, and woke once a night to eat. We switched to formula and they still woke once a night to eat. We also did a dreamfeed about 10pm. I decided to cut out the dream feed around eight months old and surprise, surprise, they slept all the way through the night from 6pm to 6am. It took about a week for them to get into a consistant routine, but have been sleeping 11 to 12 hours ever since.

I'm not opposed to CIO, but I never really did it because my girls didn't fight sleep on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong - they're not perfect sleepers and they do cry themselves to sleep some of the time (moaning crying, not wailing). But I never had to do the waiting five minutes, then going in to comfort, waiting ten minutes, then going in to comfort, etc.

If your babies are still waking every three hours at eight months, this might be habit like one of the PPs said. Have you tried not nursing every three hours at night and nursing more frequently during the day? I don't know if this will work, but you might be surprised (like I was) that taking away one "meal" led to a full night's sleep.

    Good luck!
