Do your lo's wear shoes inside the house? Mine are always in bare feet, except when we go out. I ask them
to get their shoes and they do it. But my mom says that being bare feet all the time causes wider feet (which
    they already have)
dd takes her shoes off all the time anyway... but ds does it, should I get a pair for inside the house?

I know my mother used to tell me the same thing; she said in the summer my feet would "spread" because I was barefoot all the time! This sounds like it might be an old wives tale; I'm not sure how true it is. :pardon:

That being said, we never wear shoes in the house. It's always barefoot, socks, or mukluks (sock/slipper things with a grippy sole). Their shoes get too dirty from stomping around outside to wear them in the house. They like to be barefoot best, but on cold days I start them out with socks or mukluks and let them take them off if they want. :good:

i think that's a load of hooie! :pardon: or at least, i have no idea if it actually causes wider feet or not but if it does, i don't think it matters - otherwise most Canadian children would have feet issues since it's very rare for us to wear shoes inside the house.

funny story (off topic) - when i was 18 i was touring in Montana with a group from my Bible college (all Canadian) and we were being billeted at different family homes. the first place we stayed, all five of us stopped at the entrance to take off our shoes while our hosts just continued on into the house - 15 seconds later they came back looking for us because they had no idea where we'd gone.

Mine usually just wear shoes to go outside. I usually keep them in socks with grips on the bottoms in the house. I hate wearing shoes and would rather be barefoot, so I don't bother to put them on the kids unless we are going out somewhere. I never heard that going without shoes would cause children's feet to get wider.

Everything I have read said that bare feet is best for babies learning to walk. My 9 year old is bare foot ALL. THE. TIME. I have to force that kid to wear shoes, and I don't know HOW many times we've driven somewhere and gotten out and he doesn't have any shoes :headbang: And he doesn't even come close to have wide feet LOL. Just really tough feet!
We all are bare foot in the house and only wear shoes when we are going out.

walking barefoot DOES NOT cause wide feet. our parents' generation forgets that humans weren't created/evolved with shoes. we're natural creatures whose feet are perfectly suited to bear our weight. in fact wearing hard soled shoes early can cause problems with bone development.

did you know we're not born with all of our bones in our feet developed yet? here is a site all about foot development and it includes some information about why making babies and toddlers wear shoes can cause bones to misalign as they grow and ossify.

my guys are barefoot as much as possible and they wear flexible ministars outside.

I think barefoot is probably better, but I've also put shoes on my boys when they are home. Initially it was to keep them from climbing the Superyard, and now it's more because they like having their shoes on. Most of the time the shoes are off, but they like their "N-shoes" (New Balance) and their "J-shoes" (Nike). They also think it will make me take them outside. LOL!

Add me to the list that doesn't believe the wide foot thing.
