Ok, I know this is a strange question!! When my babies are in the bath tub and the water isn't that high - I've seen them go pee in the water so I drain the water and rinse them off with the hand held shower head. Of course, that is only when I have actually seen them do it. I'm sure they do it all the time though (usually the water is deep enough where I can't "see". Anyone else ever think about this and what do you do about it?

I have caught my girls peeing in the tub a couple of times, and when I see it I empty out the tub and start over. But I do wonder how many times they have done it and I didn't know about it...

I have never emptied the tub out. Regardless of if some people think it is gross. The water to pee ratio in a little baby is so so insignificant that I don't even take the time to drain the tub.

I do bathing, solids, bottle and bed all by myself at night so the last thing I am about to do is spend 10 more minutes while the tub drains and refills with a wet, cold baby.
They don't seem to mind it, neither do I!

I love that vivaalexa has admitted to keeping her kids in the bath. In the past I've caught Brandon peeing, and I partially drained the tub and slowly filled it again while he was in it. When he did it yesterday though, I just continued finishing the bath. I give very quick baths anyway, and I figure that Lily surely had to have peed in the water before without me knowing it. I'm sure I've rinsed her hair or something with peepee water...and she's ok. There's much more water than pee in that tub, right?. I don't have time to worry about it, honestly!

Totally guilty of keeping them in the tub. I tried one time to empty the tub and they screamed the entire time. Never did it again.

I do it all by myself too and when they pee, I just add more soap to the water. My boys scream when the water is running. The last thing I need to do is run it while they are in the tub. People pee in the pool all the time and I just pretend the soap I add is like chlorine and counteracts the pee. Luckily I've never had them do number 2 in the tub. I don't have a plan for that yet and I'm sure I will freak out the first time it happens! :)

I have a story about this! It's sort of gross but very funny

When DH is home he helps me give the girls baths. I try my hardest not to watch over him like a hawk, I know that he does things his own way and I don't try to make him do things my way, even though sometimes that is hard! So I noticed that when he gave the girls baths, he filled up the sink with water as well as the baby bath...after noticing it a few times I couldn't help myself I just had to ask him what was up with the water in the sink. He was putting them first in the sink and letting them peepee in the sink and then moving them to the baby bath! LOL YUK!

I cleaned that sink and no one really uses it anyway, but ugh what if we had company over and they got a drink of water from that sink!? LOL men are so funny!!

I agree with you! Glad you admitted this because I do the same thing, I just don't have the heart or the time to start over.

DH does a lot of the bathing. He empties it when he notices them peeing in the tub. He said he mostly sees Nikola doing this. He says he's not sure how often Annalise does this and he just doesn't notice :D .

My girls never have, but my son did, and I would do just as you, pull the plug, drain, and refill. I'm a whole lot more laid back now than I was then, and I definitely would not drain the tub if the girls did.

I don't run new water either. Like everyone before said, the ratio of pee to water is so little. I always keep extra washcloths on the edge of the tub and if I happen to actually see this happening, I grab a washcloth and hold it over them. But my babies still lay down on a sponge. Once I get the bathseats, there's no way to tell if theyre peeing or not!

Oh my- I never refill the tub when they pee, and they pretty much pee every bath (altho I don't always see it, I am SURE it is happening)! Pee is sterile (I use to work in daycare years ago and that is what they told us, so I feel ok leaving them in the water as they aren't gonig to catch anything from it), and the argument of pee to water ratio being so small that I don't bother refilling the tub - dont have the time or energy. Both of my babies are happy in the bath, so i dont' see a reason to upset that.

There you go, I admitted it, I leave my babies in water that has a small amount of pee in it!

This is what I love about you vivalalexa… always right up front with the truth!!!!

I too never change the water for pee’s… but my one boy, Seth… will poop in the tub  … and that I call in help and clean the tub out for and start over (with a now very mad baby)

5 kids. All of them pee'ers. Emptied tub when I caught him peeing in it with the first child. Figured I didn't catch it all the time. He lived. Stopped draining tub and rebathing with later children. They are all still alive, not infected with anything, never got sick from tub pee, all are thriving. ;)

This happened once to me (that I noticed) but pee is sterile! So no way am I draining and refilling. That would take too long. The one who is not in the bath is usually screaming, so I go as quickly as possible

If they pooped I drained it. Otherwise, it didn't even occur to me to worry about it. People all over the world swim in rivers, so a little baby pee is nothing.

I agree. While it sounds pretty yucky, from a medical standpoint urine is sterile. It is probably so diluted at that point too that it doesn't even matter. I am sure that just about every baby pees as soon as you put them into the nice warm water and there have been no tragedies as of yet (although if you looked on the internet I am sure you could find something horribly scary on the subject :umm: ) LOL

OMG Ladies I am cracking up here!!! I love all the replies! Ok, I don't feel so bad then, because sometimes I know they pee and I just hurry up and get them out of there. My hand held shower head is right there, so I do a quick rinse off if I actally see them peeing. But, they probably do it every bath, so I will not worry about it! True, if we can swim in rivers and lakes, what's a little baby pee? LOL

Thanks for all your replies!!

I never ever refill the tub and my boys almost always pee. God, I figured everyone did that. I never even thought of starting over again. LIke others said...it's sterile.

And...the nurses in the NICU never did. The boys peed in their tubs back then and they never started over.

I never empty the tub for pee, but do for poo-pee. I grab everyone and everything out of the tub, clean up the poo-pee and start over. I've had them both do it during the same bath. DD thankfully waited until DS was out and getting dried off, so she only needed to be rescrubbed. Lots of extra work, but we get some good laughs telling the stories.

Guilty as charged. Thank heavens I've never had to experience any floaters in the tub, I would be HORRIFIED! A little pee, though? Meh...let 'em swim in it, I say.

i have to admit it too. i also let them bathe in pee pee water. phew got it off my chest yes i felt guilty the first couple times and like a bad mommy for doing it but i got over that. they are fine and for what they actually do in the water it will be fine. now i have never had a poo incident but if i did then yes poo i would have to clean before finishing a bath.
