I'd like to start making baby food for our boys, but don't have a blender. I have a really old food processor, with only one grating/slicing blade (I don't know that it would chop the food up finely enough), and I have a hand mixer (the kind with one blade that you can make smoothies etc. with). My question is.. what equipment do I REALLY need? Can I get by with using just my hand mixer? It purees stuff pretty well for smoothies, but I'm not sure if it's enough.
Any recommendations about what I need?

I used my hand mixer quite a bit, and used my blender for making larger batches. I think it's doable with the mixer. Have fun!! I really enjoyed it. :)

I think between the two that you have, you'll do fine.

I used my immersion blender (hand/stick blender) and my food processor for all of my purees. Those worked fine. don't think you need anything else besides ice cube trays,.

I think you'll be fine with the food processor.

Definitely be fine with the food processor. I have a tiny one with just a chopping/grating blade and it works just fine. I've pureed veggies and meats with it no problems.

I agree that what you have will work fine. I wish I had a hand mixer, but I used the food processor I had. Enjoy :)

rith now I use a coffee grinder to grind down rice and the like, I hope the motor doesn't give! Also a hand grinder for smooshing soft foods is great for on the go. Ours is by Kidco.
