Another Naps Question

My girls are almost 19 mos old and are still taking 2 naps a day (not that i'm complaining). they usually nap about an hour to an hour and a half for both naps and then sleep through the night. I'm ok with it - i like having 2 breaks in the day to get things done or to relax. But I was wondernig if I should start transitioning them soon. I know T would be ok transitioning but M requires more sleep (always has). Is 19mos too old for 2 naps?? What are your thoughts?

 

I think if it's still working for you and your girls, then why change it! They'll tell you (by fighting one nap) that they are ready to transition. Don't be surprised if T decides to go down to 1 nap before M though; this is what happened to me! Jack has always needed more sleep than Nate, and stayed on 2 naps for about a month after Nate went down to 1.

 

I'm totally with Valerie! I wouldn't mess with it if it's working! Mine didn't go to 1 nap until they were closer to 20 months and they let me know when that time came LOL. Enjoy those two breaks!

 

I also wouldn't mess with it. I think we switched at 20 months when they started waking at night... we had 2 2hr naps and ended up with 1 3hr nap... works fine for me, but it was a lot of learning to get to the 1 nap a day, probably took us a good month to get into the routine. but unless you have a reason to change or they need to change, I wouldn't mess with it.

 

I agree with the previous posters, if night sleep is good and they are not protesting any of the day time naps, then I would not change a thing. They will let you know when they are ready to drop a nap by protesting it. When mine went to one nap, they would sit in their cribs during the morning nap and play/chat the whole time.

 

another one who says if it ain't broke, don't fix it! if you're happy & they're happy, stick with two naps for as long as you can. :good:
