My husband and I both have brown eyes as do my two older children. My husband's father has green eyes, but all the other grandparents have brown eyes as well. The twins, however, have these bright blue eyes. They are actually lighter than they were as newborns. I figured they would eventually change to brown, but they are almost 14 months old and their eyes are still this beautiful blue. I know they have the possibility of changing to green up until something like 3 years old, but are we past the point where they could turn brown?

    TIA

One of my daughters had blue eyes until she was 1 1/2 I think and then it started changing more towards green, but I think there is still some blue in there and now also some yellow. My other daughter has bright blue eyes. Both my DH and I have hazel eyes. I never thought I would have blue eyed kids, but it turns out that since we have hazel, we actually had more of a chance of having a blue eyed child than brown...very strange. We have people on both sides of the family with blue eyes but it's all our grandparents generation. Are both you and your DH brown or hazel? If they are hazel, that would explain it more.

My sons had ice blue eyes until he was 2 then they turned green like his father’s… I have hazel… I’m curious what the twins will have as I LOVE my husband and sons eyes… my son will get stopped, even by men… saying you’ll be a lady killer with those eyes… and I taught him to reply (but it’s so un true) “just like my daddy” it was cute when he was 3

I don't know when the cut-off time would be- but to me I think they'd have a better chance of staying blue or turning a blue-green than going brown after one year old. My daughters blue- gray eyes went brown at about 1-2 months old. My hubby and I are both green and the boys are blue too! They (at 20 months) are shifting to a bit of gold or green in the center- but still very blue. It is funny that we have every color in our house!!!

I don't know but we were in a similar situation. Paul and I have brown eyes and then two of the grandparents do with another having blue eyes and the last having a dark hazel. The girls still have their blue eyes and I admit to constantly watching them to see if they'll change. They did get lighter for a while and have recently turned a little grayer but I'm pretty sure we're not going to see any brown at this point. They may still go hazel on us though.

Brown. Hazel isn't in our family anywhere. The only light colored eyes in the family are my husband's dad and sister have green, and my great grandpa had blue.

That's kind of what I'm wondering. I know they can still change, I'm just wondering if anyone has had a child whose eyes lightened from the slate color of a newborn to a bright blue, and then change to brown after one year? I would love for them to keep the color they have now.

I really dont think they would go from blue to brown...that's such a major switch!! A & L have blue eyes. They have always been blue......like PP as they have gotten older we've seen a touch of green show up...but still mostly blue. L & M had the slate colored eyes when they were born and quickly went brown. They are a med brown with a touch of green (dh's are brown/geen). So, I truly think your boys will stay blue!

My guess is they will go to green or hazel.

I had bright blue eyes into 1st Grade and now have very Green eyes!!

It is possible for two brown eyed people to have blue eyed children:

    http://www.twinmother.com/for-moms/determi...and-eye-colour/

There is a calculator that gives you the percentage chance of your children having various eye colours. Mine was boring because my husband and I both have blue eyes, but I tried it for other people I know and it's kind of fun!!!

According to the calculator - all my children should have brown eyes with only a 2% chance they would have blue and a 10% chance for green. I swear, if they weren't the only twins in the NICU when I gave birth I would wonder if they were switched. :pardon:

Stacy, I can't remember - are your twins identical? If so, then you never know - 2% chances still happen! I think that's what my doctor said my chance of having twins is! But if they are fraternal, it would be less likely (but still possible!) for them to both have blue eyes!

Yes they are identical. I mean seriously, what are the odds? Two brown eyed parents having identical blue-eyed boys......maybe I should check hospital records.

I can't imagine they'd go brown at this point, and if they are really bright blue, I bet they would stay blue.

My dear friend who I met in the NICU has b/g twins with the brightest blue eyes ever (they are 2 years old now). She and her husband both have brown eyes. It's fun to see what genetics can do!

My boys were born with blue eyes and then they got really blue and stayed that way the first year. Several months after their first birthday, they started getting bluish grey and then hazelish. They were that way for about 6-8 months. Right around their 2nd birthday they turned brown and now they are a deep, rich brown.

I have brown eyes and DH has greenish blue. I was really surprised that their eyes were so blue (I was expecting brown). But for a long time there, they had me convinced they were staying blue. I never knew they could change as late as age 2!

My husband and I are both very brown eyed. And our son has the brightest blue eyes and he's over. DD's turned a little by the time she was one, but they are still a greenish/gray. Neither one of mine turned brown. I guess the recessive gene took over.

I think it's a possibility that they will stay blue.

Genes can remain recessive for several generations before suddenly popping out to expose themselves. I have bright blonde hair -- still very blonde at 30 with no dye -- but there are NO blondes in my family for as far back as anyone can remember. Everyone has dark brown or red hair, so I was a complete surprise. My younger cousin also has the mystery blonde hair, even though everyone in our shared family and her dad's family has dark hair.

It's entirely possible that both you and your husband have been carrying recessive blue eyes for several generations.

My girls didn't get my blonde hair or blue eyes, but I know they have my recessive genes, so I'm hoping for some blonde grandchildren!! :)

My fraternal twin girls have big blue eyes and very blonde hair (with matching complexions)! I have brown eyes and brown hair and my husband has dark green eyes and brown hair! The girls are almost 27 months and no change yet. My son (6) and youngest daughter (9 mo) also have blue eyes...but brown hair.
People are always asking us where the 2 "fairheads" popped up from!! :D
