We are experimenting with going to 3 bottles. Our schedule was offering 6 ounces at about 7, 11, 3, 6:30. Today I am planning on giving bottles at 7, 12 and 6:30. So I have a few questions...

    1. I know that I should add a snack when they wake from their afternoon nap (around 3). Do I give them a sippy and food or just a sippy?
    2. I know that I am not going to get them, well at least not Mia, to drink 8 ounces - should I offer it anyway or slowly increase from 6 to 8?
    3. Is there anything else that I should know?

Thanks! My doctor wanted me to wait to go to 3, but they are just NOT interested in their daytime bottle so we thought we would give it a shot and see what happens.

I would add a snack with sippy and food. If they are drinking well out of their sippies, I would not increase the oz in the bottles, since the ultimate goal is going to be to eventually get them off of bottles. But, if they are not doing well with the sippies right now, I would increase their bottles by an oz or two. Good luck!

I'd do the snack with a sippy. I'd offer 7 ounces to Mia to see what she does. My Grace never took an 8 ounce bottle, but in the end Lily had worked up to 8, sometimes 9 ounces.

Oh - I forgot to ask - are you putting formula/EBM in the sippy or juice??

We were already on regular soy milk by then, so that is what I put in their sippies, I still haven't given the twins juice. I would put formula in it.

Wow..are we on the same page or what? Our girls are pretty much the same age and today I decided to drop from 4 bottles to 3! :)
We have the exact same schedule too! I'm dropping the 2:30/3:00 bottle and replacing it with formula from a sippy and a snack. We'll see how it goes.

    1. I know that I should add a snack when they wake from their afternoon nap (around 3). Do I give them a sippy and food or just a sippy? I would try a snack and a sippy (with water, or juice)
    2. I know that I am not going to get them, well at least not Mia, to drink 8 ounces - should I offer it anyway or slowly increase from 6 to 8? I would try 7, then go to 8.
    3. Is there anything else that I should know? I think you have a set plan! Good luck!

LNC20 - I was just wondering how your day went. We still have 1 feeding but we are already at 13 ounces so that is pretty good for us. We'll see how the last bottle goes...

Thanks for the other responses. I went with formula in their sippy at snack time but they only drank about 1 ounce each. How much do your kiddos usually drink?

the day went well! They didn't seem to miss it. I increased their food just a bit and they each drank about 2 oz from their sippy cups. (I had to really work with one of them to drink it) The other one drinks from a straw sippy and does great.
Honestly...they didn't seem just starving for their 6:30 bottle either.

How did the rest of your day go?

It didn't seem to bother them either.

They both finished their bedtime bottle - that hasn't happened in a LONG time. It has been a struggle to get them to finish any of their bottles but the bedtime was the worst. I was lucky to get 3 ounces in Mia.

At the end of the day Mia drank 19 ounces (was averaging 16) and Emma had 20 (a little lower then normal but I am going to up her ounces today).

They didn't do to great with the sippy - only about an ounce or so but we'll work more on that today. I think they just wanted their puffs more!
