Annoyed with my sister...

My younger sister has always felt this weird "competition" thing with me. I've never understood it and it drives me bananas. Anytime I do something or say I like something, suddenly she does too. They say that copying is a form of flattery...okay sure. It just annoys me, but I always ignore it because I don't want to give in to her constant need for attention and drama.

I love my sister, but sometimes I think she lives to drive my batty. :)

Well, after I had my DS, she had asked me what names I would have chosen had he been a girl. I told her that I liked the name Lucy. BIG BIG BIG mistake.

So, here I am, 2 years later, pregnant with twin girls.

She got a new dog last week.

    Named the dog Lucy.

Baby A is going to be named Lucy. We don't tell the names before birth, so no one knows that. But it's no coincidence that she just HAPPENED to pick a name we picked, I promise you that. Trust me, you would understand if you knew all of the back story, you know?

I'm not going to change my daughter's name because of my sister's dog...but this is so CLASSIC of my sister.

I'm just really annoyed. But I can't let her know I'm annoyed because 1) we keep names a secret and 2) I'm sorry if this is childish, but I don't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing she got to me...

That would annoy me too! In fact, growing up I had a dog named Lucy, so when DH suggested we name the girls Lily and Lucy I told him no b/c Lucy was a dog name. I know it's a human name but since I'd had a dog with that name it ruined it for me.

I think you are doing the right thing by not saying anything or letting her know she got to you.

Sounds like something my sister-in-laws would do... lol. Yeah, I'd be ticked.

I dont blame you being irritated, Im the type that would say something at some point especially if the dog was ever brought around me. But, keeping your cool about it is the best thing to do.

Totally agree with Tamara. If she's doing it to annoy you, she'll probably be shocked if you go ahead and name your daugher Lucy. Besides, your daughter will be around a lot longer than the dog.

I would be really irritated to, but glad u have stuck with your name. My name was to be Mandy, but couple days after I was born the lady down the street names her dog Mandy, so I got switched to Amanda, problem was I was already registered on my birth certificate as Mandy, but christened Amanda, to this day it causes me problems lol.

We kept all names secret till we knew genders. Then, and only then, I gave out the girl names we had chosen.
As for now nobody, and I mean nobody knows our boys names till birth.

Last time I mentioned a baby name we had picked out my now ex sister in law used it. First and middle name to boot! Man, we were hot! Never again would we discuss baby names for any reason.

What we are having issues with is that we are choosing a name of a dead mentor and role model of my husbands. Problem is that everyone at his work, our friends, and people around town won't take it right. They'll think it's this drunk he worked with that tried to be buddy buddy with everyone. He's quiet the party animal.
Only his old classmates and people who watched him grow up know. Not to mention there's a major park named for the gentleman.

I still refuse to back down regardless of what opinions may be. I'll use it as either a first or middle name still. :)
His mentor would most likely been right there to keep him from fainting when I gave hubby the news! :D

Oh that totally stinks! I really like the names Emily and Ella and Emma but our in laws have a dog named Emmie so I stay away from those names cuz they're so close despite how much I love them. But if I had already picked them out I would have done what you did. Good for you! I love the name Lucy!

Exactly what I was thinking. Then, having you DD around will remind her of her poor little dog after she's gone. Stupid move on her part, if you ask me.

My brother did the same thing to me!! We LOVED the name Kylee even before we had our twins and several months before I found out I was pregnant with the twins he got a dog and named her that! UGH! But I do LOVE the name Lucy!! We talked about Lucy for DD (since it was my Grandma's name) but ended up going with "K" names for the twins b/c DH whole family are "k" names...

Good for you, definitely don't give her the satisfaction. A family member of mine was going to use one of the boy names I've always loved. I was more than a little hurt since it was very intentional. Thank goodness they had a girl. So, I can totally relate to your feelings.
