So, I suddenly realized that I should have a peri appointment soon. I'm down to 1 appointment every 4 weeks, so I wasn't sure when it was and for some reason I didn't put it in my blackberry...

So, I called this morning, and it turns out that I should have been at my appointment on MAY 12th!!! I asked and apparently they don't call the night before to remind patients about appointments...well, I suppose that's fine, but if I miss an appointment and I don't call in, don't you think you should call me to re-schedule??? How long were you going to let me go before calling???? Ugh.

To make matters worse, my not quite 2 year old boy is having heart surgery on Thursday morning...my OB is pretty concerned that the stress from that may put me in PTL...so, I would have loved to have a peri appointment to check on the girls before the big event...but of course, my peri doesn't have any appointments until late next week. UGH!

That is annoying. I think all doctor's should do some sort of reminders...but out of all the doctor's we see my daughter's is the only one that has a call system to remind you a couple days before. And they should call you if you miss. Don't they know most women wouldnt' miss a Peri appt. on purpose!!

I hope everything goes well with you son's surgery.

I love doctor's offices that do a reminder call, and it's a bummer that some of them don't. Best of luck with your 2 year old's surgery, I can imagine how stressed you must be.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's surgery! I hope all goes well!! I'm sure you are very stresed right now and under the circumtances I would thin they would try to fit you in!!

That said, I don't think the peri should be expected to make those calls. I think that is a pretty big burden to put on the dr office when really it's the patients resonsibility to know when an appointment is or schedule a new one. I have had some that have made reminder calls and some that haven't but I don't think I've ever had one that would call you if you missed an appointment to initiate rescheduling.

I totally agree that it is the patients responsibility, but at the same time, I guess I view the medical industry as a consumer industry...I am a consumer and they should exercise good customer service. It's not like they are the IRS. But, ultimately, I guess my main issue, is how much time does it really take??? The peri's office I go to is only open 3 days a week...and it's just one doctor...so they can't possibly have more than 15 patients a day. It just doesn't seem like all THAT much work to call...and I will admit that it makes me feel like "just another file" when no one even notices that you missed an appointment and/or calls to check on you and/or reschedule...you would think they want their money! :)

Anyway, not to start a debate, because this is actually the FIRST appointment (of any kind) that I've missed since I tend to rely heavily on my beloved BlackBerry...I have no idea why I didnt input this particular appointment...oh well...live and learn!

 I guess I'm cynical, but this is exactly how I view the medical industry, I think individual patients are "just another file"!! Maybe I go to the wrong dr's but customer service has never been their strong suite. I'm really not trying to debate you - I just thought that was funny because it looks like we have opposite expectations. I admit - yours is much nicer!! :D I must just be used to poor customer service!! I hope my last post didn't offend you. I felt bad after I posted it because I can't imagine what kind of a week you are having. I think if the worst is forgetting an appointment you are handling it 1000X better than I would. I'll be thinking of your son on Thursday and please update us when you can of how he is doing!!!

I think all appointments you make should call and remind you of them. The place I get ultrasounds done has called me twice to remind and haven't two times. The second appointment I had I had to call that morning and ask if I really had one since I never got the call. I have had a couple doctors office's that called because I missed an appointment. And the nurse at my current doctor called a couple weeks on the day I was supposed to have the appointment to yell at me for rescheduling because it is so important not to miss appointments expecially with twins.

Good luck with your sons surgery. I hope everything goes well and update us on how it goes please.

Good luck to your little guy on Thursday. I will be looking for updates. Yes I do think you should get phone calls the day before a visit...and a courtesy (where were you call) would be very nice!
