Is it normal for my ankles to swell worse than during pregnancy? Last week I had my c-section, and granted I spent all day at the NICU mostly on my feet, but my ankles seem to be swelling double what they did when I was pregnant. I am going to call the Dr. in the morning and sleeping with them elevated. Just wondering if anyone else had this and should I be worried? Thanks.

My legs and ankles were very swollen after my csection, and I think it got worse for about a week or two before it got better. But good to call your doctor to check anyway!

My ankles were way worse after my pregnancy and they were BAD during it. I could not believe how big they were and it took a while for them to get back to normal. I was told by a nurse in the NICU it was because of all the fluids they pump in you durning the c-section.

I delivered mine vaginally, but my ankels and to some extent even my lower legs were GIGANTIC after I got home. Much worse than when I was pregnant. Lasted about a week and a half and then all back to normal. There was information on the swelling in my discharge papers. Wish I knew where I put them, but it basically said it was normal.

I had the same problem with my ankles. After I was released from the hospital my ankles - really all the way up to my knees got really really really swollen! I went back to the hospital, I was concerned b/c I'd had Pre-E at the end. What happens is you have all this fluid and after the babies are out it takes a few weeks for it to get out of your system I guess? :unknw: All I know is I went to the hospital but I was fine.

You could call your OB's office and ask them about it!

I delivered vaginally, but I was amazed that my swelling stayed just as bad or worse after delivery as it was during my pregnancy. The swelling took almost 6 weeks to totally go away. I even asked my OB if I could take a diuretic to speed things along, but she said it wouldn't really help and that I should let nature take its course.

Being you had a c-section, I might call to ask to make sure. I hope you get some relief soon. The swelling drove me crazy.

Mine were pretty puffy for a week or so after my c-sxn. It's because of all the fluids they give you. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (I know it sounds counter-intuitive; but it helps your body flush out the extra) and walking as much as you can (abiding by c-sxn limitations, of course); and if it doesn't go down soon, call your doctor.

about a week after giving birth, when I walk I could literally feel the water in my feet. It was the weirdest feeling ever. My ankles, or what I called them cankles, stayed swelled a little over a week.

continue to drink lots of water.

Same as all PP's, it lasted about two weeks after my c-section. And my feet would tingle and turn red when I was in the shower. I also had really high blood pressure after delivery and had to take meds for it so I would definitely call your Dr just to be on the safe side.

I am having the exact same issue. It almost feels like the skin on my feet is going to burst off! Everyone keeps telling me it will get better, but nothing seems to help. I am drowning myself in water and I sleep with my feet up and relax with my feet up. Nothing is working! It has been 12 days since i had austin and alyssa! I hope it gets better soon.

Mine were terrible-- I could not wear shoes for 1 whole month. I had pre-e before my c section. They did give me a water pill, but it did not hurt. My swelling went from my toes all the way up to my thighs. I could not even wear undeerwear comfortably because they ccut into my skin--I finally saw a difference in 4 weeks. Going to the NICU all the time didnt help either. They kept telling me to stay off of them, but I had to see my BABIES!! good luck

It is totally normal for your swelling to get worse before it gets better because when you are in labor you get so many fluids in your IV and now your body has to have some time to flush all of that out. Hope this helps. There are other reasons also. I am not sure if you had B/P problems or not, but that can also cause some swelling.

I had swellen during pregnancy to the point they put those weird tight socks on me with inflatable things around my legs. Not fun. I fully expected the swelling to go down after delivery, but it was WEEKS before I had my legs and feet back.

(not one drop of swelling with my singleton....weird)

I wouldn't worry about it - trust me, I had the same thing (combined with a very attractive pupps rash all over me!), with the swelling getting really bad right after I delivered. All the drs told me it would go away in about a week, and try as I may, I didn't believe them. The swelling was so bad my toes looked like stuffed sausages attached to hobbit feet, and I refused to leave the house. Sure enough though, a week later, pupps rash started to disappear all on its lonesome, and the swelling disappeared as miraculously as it had turned up. I know its uncomfortable, and you probably feel like Miss Piggy, but hang in there, it will go away! Congrats on the birth of your bubs by the way :)

I am with the rest of you... my ankles swelled so big after my c-section that I thought something was wrong. My OB gave me some water pills to take when I went in for my 1 week check-up and to take out my staples. It took about a month for mine to go down and every once in a while they will still swell if I take in too much sodium. Try to stay away from it all you can right now and soak them in cool water. It will help with the pain and tight feeling. Other than that it is just a waiting game for your body to go back to normal! :hug99:

After I delivered I swelled up so much more than when I was pregnant! My ankles were HUGE! My BP also went up, but not too high. My OB said it was normal and it would go away in about a week and it did!
Oh, and I had a vaginal delivery.
