They put me on iron pills and I have been looking at foods but I have weird aversions still... Can anyone give me tips of recipes for iron rich foods? Interestingly I was not anemic with the twins and my OB said she rarely sees twin pregnancies that aren't iron deficient!

Dark green veggies like broccoli, spinach and the like. Of course red meat. Dried fruit (raisins, apricots, prunes, peaches, or currants)
Also they say soy products do contain iron.

Also Vit C can increase absorption so try drinking OJ or eating tomatoes.

Good luck increasing it, then maybe you won't be so tired.

Oh boy did I eat a lot of beef! I tried to do beef at least every day or every other. I'd cook up a couple of pounds and have it at lunch or dinner. I also tried to avoid milk/dairy with whatever I was eating as it blocks absorption.

Hmm, I did OJ for breakfast, beef for lunch and tried things like a serving of broccoli for dinner. HERE is a link for 'hummus pizza'. My DH loved it when I made it for him. I'm not a fan of peppers, but it is pretty good.

Good luck- I'm sorry you are anemic.

Thanks! I have been ambivalent about beef and have been eating mostly sweets :FIFblush: and veggies and fruits.

I did a couple searches and found that beef is my best bet... guess I'll suck it up!!

Funny thing is I am not all that tired, not any more than a normal pregnant girl, or so I thought!

If you are into fruit, buy a bag of oranges! (No worries about your diet- I'm a junk food junkie- pregnancy actually got rid of my sweet tooth. I mourned it. Fortunately it came back when I started nursing!)

I thought of another thing you can do- get a seasoned iron skillet. Cooking with an iron skillet releases a tiny bit of iron into the food. We got one from Goodwill- I can't taste a difference in the food but have heard that it's not good to make things with tomatoes as the acid can break down too much iron and make your food taste bad. :bad:

Also, most cold cereals are fortified with iron...not the healthiest, but most contain at leat 20% of your daily intake
