Last week, I went to do my check-up. Yesterday, my doctor call me with the results, and everything is out of control: I am in the beginning of anemia, my potassium is low, my thyroid decrease (she had to decrease the dose), and my white blood cells increased but this is because i got a cold. I need to repeat my blood work in 2 weeks!!!
I am worried about the anemia, she said for I try taking the pre-natal vitamin because I was taking the kids vitamins and this is not enough!

Does anyone have anemia during pregnancy? I never got anemia before, it's my first time! It is been difficult to eat, I don't have hungry!!!!! I am feeling so bad about this!

I had it with my both pregnancies. I took iron supplements and felt much better after about a week. Good luck!

I also took an iron supplement. I started to take it when I felt extra tired and it worked well. I hope you feel better soon. Good luck.

I can't swallow any pills but was on a liquid iron supplement. It's really common with multiples- you just have to really try to eat iron rich foods as every bite helps. Meat and spinach are 2 foods that have a good amount of iron.

Also, you can cook in a cast-iron skillet which deposits a small amount of iron on your food with every meal (not harmful- helpful in your case).

I found out I was serverly anemic right after they admitted me to the hopital. They put me back on the prenatals and started giving me an iron supplement 3 times a day, but even after 10 days my levels had not increased(the babies have just taken to much from me)so they gave me an Iron transfusion last week. Hopefully your anemia has been caught early and you can bulk your iron back up with the supplements. Good Luck! and make sure to take a stoll softener with the iron pills. :)

I was diagnosed with anemia at 18-19 weeks. It's apparently very common with twin pregnancies - twice the babies, twice the blood, twice the iron needed. My OB prescribed me 325mg of iron, too, and I started feeling a lot better once I began taking it. HOWEVER, you will get constipated. Like you've never been before. Tricks I've found to mitigate the constipation:
    - Take a stool softener with the iron (my OB recommended this).
    - Drink a lot of water
    - Eat a Fiber One granola bar or other fiber-rich product in the morning BEFORE you have anything else (this is key). It needs to be eaten on an empty stomach.
    - Skip a day of iron (my OB said this was okay)
    - Last ditch - drink a cup of coffee. I've been trying to avoid caffeine as much as possible, but occasionally I try this.

And take the iron pills with orange juice or a vitamin C, and avoid drinking milk within a half hour before or after taking it. The vitamin C helps you absorb iron and the milk kind of blocks it. When I had my twins I was getting anemic and every week it was worse, even though I kept taking higher and higher iron. Then my OB said, "Oh, did I tell you to take it with Vitamin C?" Nope! Soon as I started doing that, my iron went up.

I also started taking an iron supplement at 25 weeks. It's normal to experience anemia, especially with a twin pregnancy. I take mine in the morning with orange juice.

I say ditch the tablet form of iron and go for Floradix. Its a liquid supplement of iron, and is NOT constipating at all. I took it after a PP blood loss (not a hemorrhage, just a large blood loss) after my 3rd child and my counts were totally normal 95 days after I gave birth (takes 90 days to form a red blood cell). I also took it with my Duo - at 5mths I began to show signs of anemia. By the time I gave birth my counts were normal.

And within 2 weeks of switching from the tablets she recommended to the Floradix the constipation was gone, never to return....
