Thankfully I had a GREAT Dr. who walked us (us being Julia and I) through the test. Thankfully there was nothing anatomically wrong nor any ulcers of any sort. BUT You had to be pretty blind not to see it..."silent" reflux it is. I was kind of worried that nothing would show up and that I was going to walk out of there even more frustrated. I'm not glad that she has it but I am happy that I know (I always knew!) and we can focus on controlling this. The Dr. said she refluxes pretty high up. My next question is, she started Prilosec on Monday evening after being on Zantac, should I suggest (read: demand) prevacid instead? I just seem to see that more babies have better success with Prevacid. They have their four month check up on Tuesday and if I do not see any results I think thats the route I am going to go.
I am SO glad you got some answers today. We were never on Priolosec, but were on Axid and Prevacid. The biggest change occured in them when they were put on Reglan. We had no side effects from it, other than happy babies, that ate without being forced! :hug99:
Kell- That was FAST! Good for you and i'm glad you have a VERIFIED answer now. I'd give this med a chance and if it's not working- switch. You will find something!!!
I'm so glad you have some answers (or confirmation of what you already thought). No help here on the meds, but I hope they help, and soon!
I forgot to mention that Julia did great! She started crying a little bit when they put her on the table but other than that she was a real trooper. After the test she drank about 4 ounces as well. I am a little mad because they told me "no food or water for at least 12 hours"...I thought, even for a baby?!?! Well, I didn't follow their rules and feed her a little around 7. Once I got there they told me they should have for at least 4, not 12. She hasn't wanted to eat lately anyway but in this heat that could have been bad!!! I had a little igloo thing waiting with a sippy cup, water, two extra bottles and some formula. I usually don't give them water but the past couple of days I didn't want her dehydrated. She loved it! The test wasn't that bad either. If any parent has to have their child get it done it took about 25 minutes and was not invasive at all for the baby. I think I was more scared than she was!
I wondered why they would make a baby go so long without food. I wonder what they were thinking when they told you that. I'm so glad you got some answers finally. Both of mine have been on Zantac which didn't work. Then they were both on Prevacid for a long time. Karina was still having symptoms though, so we just switched her to Prilosec. She's been on it for 3 weeks and I don't notice a difference from the Prevacid. It works about the same for us. It is MUCH cheaper though, so I think I'm going to have Annelise switched to Prilosec at the next appointment. It's easier when they are both on the same med anyway. Karina will probably end up with Reglan in addition to the Prilosec.
If you want to try prevacid tell your pedi, it would be ridiculous to continue to not listen to you at this point. So glad you have some answers!

So glad you have some answers! Yea! Tell me about it! I took the girls in, in March because I was pretty sure they had RSV. One of the Dr.s (not their regular Ped. From now on I will not see another Dr. other than theirs) said, "no they look fine, but if you want you can bring Julia back tomorrow and have her rechecked". Well, we got home and not a minute passed that we said forget that and drove down to the ER about 45 minutes away. Sure enough they did and were in the hospital for 6 days for oxygen support and extra fluids. What would have happened had we not followed our instinct? Thats twice now that I went to the Dr. telling them what I thought the girls had and twice now that I didn't really feed validated. Thankfully their regular Ped. listens to me (its just so hard to get in and see her, now I know why! and usually follows up/suggests things (ie, ordered the upper GI).
So glad you have some answers now! I used to sell Pravcid and it's in the same drug class as Prilosec ... both are Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs). If it were me, I would probably ask for Pravicid but both are very effective and safe drugs.
QUOTE(Tammy Fine @ Jun 19 2008, 05:05 PM) If you ask for Pravcid ask for the solutabs not the compound. It works so so so much better! Before she took Zantac pretty well. I think she even liked the taste. Now however she does not take prilosec very well. I am not sure how much she is actually getting as she lets it drool out of her mouth. Is there a way to give it to her better?
Glad to hear you got some answers. I know how frustrating reflux can be and you can not wait to see some results. We started on Zantax and then switched to Prevacid. It took us about ten days before we saw results but it was a miracle when we did. I'm not sure if Prevacid is any different from Prilosec but I think if you have given Prilosec a fair try then you have every right to ask for the other. My original Ped Gi did not want to give me anything other the Zantac so I switched to a new Dr.

I am not sure how much she is actually getting as she lets it drool out of her mouth. Is there a way to give it to her better? Kelly, One of my daughters has been on compounded Prilosec for nine months. Prevacid didn't work for us, but Prilosec did almost immediately. We give the Prilosec in her bottles. All of the PPIs are supposed to be given 30 minutes before eating, but my daughter always refused the medicine so her GI said it was fine to put in a bottle. That might work for you if you're worried she's not getting the medicine. Just FYI... I also had to cut out all dairy to get Eleanor's reflux under control and when we supplemented with formula, we had to use Nutramigen. If the PPI medicines don't work for you, you might want to try that next (if you haven't already).
Good luck...my older DD had terrible reflux and I completely sympathize with what you are going through. FYI...we went from Zantac (which did nothing for DD) to prilosec and it worked wonderfully for her. She was on it until she was 3.
I'm glad everything went well for her. Now, hopefully you can get on the right meds. Prevacid solutabs also worked wonders for us. Goodluck!
:hug99: I'm glad you got some answers Momma. As for the meds, for my son prilosec was his "miracle" drug. Give it a shot and if it doesn't work you can request the other. Good luck and keep us updated. :hug99:
