DH is from Costa Rica and his family has yet to meet the girls (U.S denied their visa). So, we are going to go down there for the girls' first birthday. We have a one hour flight to Arizona a little lay over and then a FIVE hour flight to CR. We purchased three seats (so a row) and one baby will be on our lap. I am excited to visit family, I am just not looking forward to the flight getting us there :/

As weird as this sounds but one part I am nervous about is that the girls HATE being rocked to sleep (well, except for a few minutes ago). When they want to sleep they want in their crib and they want to be left alone. So, should I try to hold them a little for the plane trip to get them use to falling asleep with me or just hope for the best on that day?

Honestly i would just hope for the best that day, I think you would hate to make a habit out of holding them to sleep (when you have probably worked hard not to), just to make 7 hours in your life easier...the day will come and go and it probably won't be nearly as bad as your are imagining. Just remember its only 1 day out of your life, and what a great time they will have seeing family! It is totally doable!!

You will be fine. We made 4 return flights over the summer (3 continents) when they were 6-8 months and plus our 2 yr old. Really wasn't that bad. Just be organised and enjoy the travel!

I have not yet travelled with the twins, so the only advice I can offer is best of luck to you and enjoy Costa Rica!

I too, would just go with the flow. Best laid plans never seem to work for us when we travel. We flew at 3 months with the boys and again at 11 months and then just over the summer. We have had great experiences so far. You will have so much fun!

As everyone else said just go with the flow. Every trip we've taken with the girls has been different. I've stopped trying to plan flights according to nap or sleep times because it never works out right. Just bring your sense of humor and realize its only a couple hours out of everyone's life. Enjoy your trip!

We flew for the first time when the boys were 8 months old. It was a four hr flight and I was so nervous and stressed about them crying during the flight. It worked out great though, it was an early morning flight so they slept a good amount on the way there and it was a red eye home and they slept the entire trip back. It was a little hard getting the one in our lap to sleep and he cried for about 10 min and then zonked. They were also teething at the time and I gave them tylenol before the flight so I'm sure that helped get them sleepy. You will be fine! Good Luck!
