Am I making a huge mistake?

My girls have refused to cuddle since they were about 6 weeks old. They wanted to be on their own to go to sleep. About 3 weeks ago, they started liking to cuddle again. K will even flip around if she is sitting on my lap to snuggle up and try to sleep. So, for the past week I have been letting them take one nap on me max. Sometimes, not even at all or sometimes just if they wake up form a nap and I know they are still tired. I am CRAZY in love with our cuddle time. Am I setting myself up for them getting used to this and refusing to fall asleep on their own?

Sidenote: They have both started sucking their thumbs and I think its really cute. DH hates it, but since he is not here, I don't discourage it. I sucked my thumb at night until I was 12 (EMBARRASSING!) and I have straight teeth and am a fully functioning member of society (haha!)

I say soak up as many of those cuddle opportunities as you can because before you know it those babies are suddenly toddlers and on and on... As long as you are happy and they are happy, that is all that matters at this point.

I never EVER turn down an opportunity to snuggle with my two. I know from experience that time passes too fast & they won't want to cuddle forever. All of my babies have taken many naps snuggled up with me on the sofa or in the bed. Will it cause sleeping issues for you? Maybe temporary ones, but all of my older kids now put themselves to bed & sleep through the night (and have for many years), so whatever issues it causes won't last forever. Enjoy your babies!!

Take those cuddles. I am in the camp to soak up those opportunities. I don't hold them for naps, but my DH and I still rock to sleep for a bit every night. Sometimes they fall asleep, sometimes they are just too wiggly so we lay them down and after a quick outburst they roll over and fall completely asleep. I feel like I am providing security for them. Who knows - but I don't want to miss out on this! I say go for it - they are only this age once. And cuddling doesn't make them overly sensitive children. :)

You are not making a mistake, you should enjoy the cuddle time while it lasts! At 2 years old I sometimes beg my girls to cuddle with me!

It is never a mistake to cuddle with one of your babies. I really cherish the moments when only one boy is awake at night because I can just cuddle and snuggle with him for a bit. It's the one thing that I struggle a bit with this time around.

I say cuddle away! Even though mine still love to cuddle, I see the beginnings of full toddler mode starting. Now that they realize they can pull themselves up into standing, they now see the potential for cruising and eventually walking. I was dreading the days of trying to hold them while all they wanted to do was get down. Well those days are now here. I'm sure before long, they will wince at being held and cuddled because of all the playing they think they're missing out on :) Cherish all the cuddles you can get!

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. My babies sleep on us sometimes and sleep in their vibrating chairs sometimes and cribs sometimes. Take every opportunity you can to cuddle them because someday they won't want to cuddle at all. As for the thumbsucking. I don't see how you can discourage it. You can't take their thumbs away and an 8 month old is not going to understand any discouragement method you choose. I'd say tell DH to relax, they will grow out of it eventually, maybe sooner than you realize.

I think that cuddle time is toooo short; it should be mandatory until they are at least school age or something  . My boys are 14 months and I have to grab my cuddles whenever I can get them!! Enjoy them and take them whenever you can!!!

I agree with the others... take that baby lovin'. My girls are apparently just like yours. They never wanted to be held to go to sleep and they never wanted to be rocked. I know that sounds crazy to most... but they always wanted to lay in their bed on the their bellies. From the beginning. Now that they are older they do love their Mommy and want to give her more loving. :give_rose: (and she loves it!!!) To this day, they still want in their bed anytime they want to sleep. Period.

    snuggle those babies!!!

HEY! I sucked my thumb tell I was 12 too! lol

There will come a time when you WISH you could still cuddle with them! So go for it. The only time I didn't soak up cuddles, was when I was working on setting a schedule.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I read your posting. I DO THE SAME THING (I have 9 1/2 month old twin girls)! I have two older children that I did the exact same thing with and they are wonderful. There is NOTHING wrong with cuddling! Do it now before they're older and don't consider it "cool".
