i work in the adolescent psych unit at the hospital. i only work three days a week (i'm low on totem pole, being new, and so have the fewest amount of hours), and most of the job is sitting. there is a bit of getting up and down adn moving around, but it's not a super active job, though it IS mentally draining. but seriously, by the end of my 8 hour shift, i can barely walk, and i feel like i have been beat up. i just went back yesterday after a 2 week leave of absence (for spotting/bleeding), and i thought i'd be fine, but it was the same as before. what's the deal? has anyone else's work affected them this way, even tho it's not a super active job? or am i just a total wuss? (now, let me just say, that before i got pregnant, i was the first one to jump up and run an errand on another floor or get meds from the pharmacy, just to get up and move around. not so much anymore...)

    I feel your pain!

When I was pregnant, I went from the classroom to a district office job, so I was sitting a lot compared to before. It was hard, even though the job was not physically demanding. My body was just so tired.

I have to be honest, it did get a little easier after 18 weeks or so, when my morning sickness was gone. It was like I got a new burst of energy, although it was very short-lived.

Well since you are experiencing a high risk pregnancy....and having some bleeding, I too would want to do as little as possible to make sure my babies were okay. But I haven't been tooo relaxed this pregnancy, actually I run around like crazy. I finished my semester at college at the beginning of april at nearly 30 weeks, and can't stop and just relax. I am actually surprised that nothing major has happened through out my pregnancy.

In your case....i would be a real wuss and milk it for as much as i could! There is no way I would want to work at all if it put my babies at harm. Take it easy...try to have a warm bath and relax after your day at work...or cut back the hours even more.

Everything will be okay...you just have to do what is right for you and your babies.

I'm not saying it will get better, it might not......

But, it was your first day back after 2 weeks off, give yourself a break. It might be easier once you get back in the "groove".

Just about the only time I didn't feel that way during my pregnancy was from about 16-24 weeks. So if you were feeling this way all the way from the beginning, it might get a bit better for awhile.

Also remember that mentally draining can equal physically draining.

But when you say you feel like you've been beat up, do you mean actual pain? Or more like you are just incredibly tired? Actual pain at 16 weeks might be something worth looking into, depending on what it is that hurts.

You're not a wuss. Just pregnant! I was like you...active, hoping up here and there to do things. Once I get pregnant though, I was exhausted. I remember actually planning my day around how many naps I could fit it.

I feel your pain. I'm an OR nurse in cardiovascular surgery. While I cut back to 6 hours a day, it was too much. I'm almost at 23 weeks, and today my doctor agreed to take me off work. She asked me to stick it out until 24 weeks, but physically I can't. I'm in too much discomfort during and after work. I'm useless once I get home.
    Good luck,
    Jennie
