Garrett and Grant both get 24 ounces a day of formula. 4 bottle of 6 oz each every four hours. then they get their solids three times a day in between that. for the past few days they have been refusing to drink their formula. they will down the first bottle in the morning but after that, it is a struggle. should i be giving them less?? should I offer bigger bottles less frequently? I tried sippy cups with formula in them but they didn't like that idea even though they love their sippy cups. I think it is the formula they don't want. has this happened to you? any ideas?

We were off bottles shortly after 11 months old, so I am not sure I will be of much help. Maybe you could try going down to 3? Or replace those middle two bottles with sippies? I was doing regular milk in their sippies at that point.

I was wondering if i could start adding regular milk. how much regular milk did you add before they turned 1?
    thanks

I'd like to know this too. We have the same problem and mine are about the same age as yours.

Around 9 months I went down to three bottles, still 24 oz. a day though. My girls went through a phase around 9.5/10 months of drinking less, like around 18-20 oz. and I was told by their pedi to cut down on solids. They told me the formula was the most important nutrition and to make sure they were getting at least 20-22 a day. Of course all pedis are different, so definitely check with yours.

We got the green light to start milk just after 11 months since the girls were gaining weight well. I went straight to milk in sippies at 11 mos. 10 days.

This might sound weird but i am seeing a pediatrician that specializes in paeditric nutrition (and happens to be the chief of paediatrics at the hospital) (b/c i am having major troubles feeding my boys) and he tells me that i shouldn't be worried if they are taking solids over milk b/c solids are higher in calories than milk is. Of course, he is still trying to get the boys to drink milk, just that i was complaining that after the solids (i only do once a day right now), the next milk feed does not go well and they only take a a few ounces and he said that's ok...

anyway, just wanted to let you know that my pedi would probably tell you not to worry about it if they're not getting a full 24 oz of formula. not sure what a right number would be though. He always tell me not to force them... so do your babies want any milk or will they have nothing to do with it?

sorry, not too much help... good luck!

My babies are younger than yours (almost 7 months) but at our recent doctor's appointment we were told to try to have them down to three bottles a day at 9 months. Maybe your babies are ready to drop a bottle since they're getting so much good nutrition from their solids? My guys take four 7-oz bottles a day now. We do solids twice a day (cereal and fruit in the a.m., cereal and veggies in the p.m.).

thanks for all the advice. I am going to drop it to three bottles tomorrow and see how it sounds. I am also going to call the pedi tomorrow. Garrett has been really cranky and kinda pulling on his ears. I wonder if they might have an ear infection. We have been getting over some illnesses. I tried just giving them real milk and they wouldn't drink it either. they wouldn't even drink juice or water today.
