Am I depriving DD by keeping her in infant car seat

Most people don't have this issue, but DD is only 14 lb at 11 months. She will probably fit in the Graco Snugride til she's 2. I find it so much easier to take the infant seat with the DuoGlider everywhere I go. But do you think it is bad for her? DS has been in a convertible since about 8 months. So at least in the stroller, I can put them face-to-face. How long should I keep her in the infant seat?

How tall is she? The snugride only goes up to 32" I believe. So she might not be at the weight limit, but she might be at the height limit. But no, I don't think you are depriving her by keeping her in the infant seat.

It's not bad for her b/c it's safe! One thing I didn't realize is that you need to check the length limit on the car seat as well. You need to put her in a convertible seat as soon as she hits either the weight limit OR the height limit. My boys grew out of the length at just 5 months. So, just double check that and if she's still within those limits, I think its fine. It's also a great way to avoid all the "are they twins" questions! :)

As long as she is within the height limit, I would keep her in it!

I have the graco safe seat. The weight limit is 30lbs and height is 32 inches; right now my guys are well under the weight limit, and nearly 4 and 5.5 inches under that. I'm pertty sure both of my guys will reach that point after a year, and I plan on leaving them in it until they outgrow it. I've heard it's safer than forward facing anyways.

Rear facing is much safer. my dd was too tall for her infant carrier but is 18 pounds at 13 months (also petite!). We just put her in a convertible car seat which is in my car rear facing. I cant wait to put her forward but that wont happen till she reaches the 20 pound mark.

Keep in mind the height limit isnt necessarily inches. you could have a child with long torso, or long legs -- whats important is when the childs head is within 1" of the top of the infant carrier thats the point where they are too tall.

That's a good point Jess...I need to go check Eli's head because he has a really long torso. I also know that long legs can be a problem if their feet can reach the seat, and they start pushing and kicking off of the seat. My friend had that issue, and I totally forgot until I read this post.

If you are interested in doing so, you can keep your babies rear-facing in a convertible quite a bit longer than the 20lb point. Many seats have rear-facing limits of 30 or more pounds and it is much safer than forward facing. My older DS was rear-facing until he was 31lbs and I'll keep my twins rear-facing until the limits of their seats (33lbs).

If you want more info, just google "extended rear-facing" and you'll find lots of good info! :)

I would have loved for the boys to fit in their infant seats longer. I say go for it as long as she is within the seat limits.
