My girls HATE tummy time. They always have. There was like a week where they napped on there tummy, but now even that's out the window. They only like to be on there backs or sides.
But they are almost 3 months old and I know how important it is to get them on there tummies... so I I tried to do it the past couple of days. and they still HATE it. they get so frustrated it seems. Like the don't have the strength to be trying to pick up there heads. After like a minute or two, they want back on their backs.

Any suggestions? How long should they be on there tummies? Should I be worried that they will be developmentally behind? (is that a word? ) LOL

I wouldn't worry about it too much. How often have you ever met an adult that had trouble controlling his or her head due to lack of tummy time?

I'd just put them on their tummies for about 5 minutes at a time just whenever you think of it. If they are fussing you could give them some little toys to look at while on their tummies, placed in front of them. I think several times a day for just a few minutes at a time and they will get used to it, or maybe it will motivate them to flip back over to their backs!

My 2 never did like it (actually all 5 of mine hated it). I would just make a point of putting them on their tummies for as long as they will tolerate it a couple of times a day. They'll be fine.

LOL... you are right? you know... before, I would consider myself a pertty confident, self assured gal, who made decisions quickly and never second guessed herself. But this new role as a mom, really has me second guessing myself all over the place. I'm like a blubberin' fool over here. I need to chill! :)

    thanks ladies.

My kids never liked it that much either. The best way that I found to do it was for me to lay on the floor, the bed, whatever and have them lay on top of me. That way they had my face to entertain them (it's very entertaining ;) ).

My DD still does not like it very much! I usually change their diapers on the bed, so afterwards, flip the one I have changed onto their tummy while I change the other one. I also let them lie on a boppy pillow with a couple of toys in front of them...my DD tolerates this much better than just lying on the floor...lying on your chest or your legs is good too...

At 7 months, Michael still hates it. I get on the floor with him, put this musical toy in front of him, sing, dance, whatever it takes to entertain him for a few minutes. His Physical Therapist (he's in PT for torticollis and low muscle tone) told me to put a rolled up receiving blanket under his armpits when he was littler, it gave him just enough lift to get his face off the ground.

Mine hated it until they could roll back to front (4 1/2-5 months old) then that was the only way they would sleep or play!!!

My DS still hates it at almost 9 months old. When my LOs were younger, they tolerated tummy time the best when we did it on their changing table. For some reason they love the changing table. DD all of a sudden decided that she liked her tummy at about 7 months or so. Now she's on her tummy all the time and crawling all over the place. I don't think there's much you can do to get them to like it, other than to keep trying to make tummy time as engaging as possible.

I did the same thing as Aimee. My two hated tummy time with a passion. I used to lay on the floor and have one of them lay on top of me or lay them on their bellies on the back of couch so they could see out the window.
