All of a sudden hoarse?

Discussion in 'The First Year' started by three_precious_girls, Jul 31, 2007.

I came down to check on one of the girls as she woke up from a nap and she is all of a sudden hoarse and fussy. Her voice is actually going out. Any help? Im worried. She doesnt have a fever...

Maybe some kind of virus? Does she have reflux?

  2. I was wondering about reflux too... she does spit up a lot. She has had normal weight gain and is generally happy and I attributed the fussiness to teething before. What do I do from here? Do I just wait a month till the 6 mo checkup? Is this something that needs to be addressed immediately?

She has been at home since birth..doesnt go to daycare for another month. She hasnt really been exposed to anyone that has been sick.

That happened to my DD when she was a couple of months old. She was never sick or showed any other symptoms. It was kind of weird. Her voice came back the next couple of days.

We never took her to the ped for it. But if you are concerned you can call your ped and ask questions.

I wouldn't wait if I were you. Reflux can cause damage to their esophagus, and that might be what you are hearing in her voice. Jake developed that raspy sounding throat when he was really young, like 2 weeks old, and the reflux meds did help. :hug99:

It very well could be reflux. My Twin B has been on zantac since birth. We thought Twin A was fine until he was 5 months old and he started growling. We thought it was cute at first, but it started to sound like he was a long-time smoker. We determined that he was refluxing and it was actually burning his throat and that is why he was growling, but he did not have the typical arching the back/screaming symptoms that Twin B has.

I agree. Patrick was hoarse and that's how the pedi noticed asked me about reflux. I would talk to my pedi about it. Hope everything is ok.

  8. Thank you very much for the advice I will put a call in in the morning...
