Okay, so I just had to update you guys.

REmember my sleep He-- double hockey stick situation that was going on for over five weeks that I posted about??

Where my DH was having to sleep w/ Nicolas cuz he was wandering the fricking house at all hours screaming for DH etc waking up at all hours etc figting bedtime and naps and just being AWFUL??

    Well, folks............

    I figured it out.

    IT WAS THE GATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was P*SSED off about THE GATE!

He didn't like that I didn't trust him so he was rebelling. I'm serious. Yes, I know he's just 28 months old but it's true.

I never babyproofed ANYTHING in my house. Nothing. I never blocked off a thing. I never hid a cord, blocked an outlet, gated a room, shut a door, NADA so when I put that gate up (cuz he escaped one nite and came upstairs ) he was FURIOUS and I guess rebelled?? Anyway, he did not like that! And I think maybe was AFRAID??

    Anywhoo...

It's been five nights now-- no daddy, and he stays in his bed and he waits for his sun to come on and for me to COME AND GET HIM!!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Just wanted to give ANYONE hope that sometimes it's easier than it seems and we just overthink things.

They may seem little but they are SMART as whips and we may need to trust them sometimes, I guess!

    Thanks for your support!

Sooo glad you figured THAT out

i got nothing done when I had my dudes in a gated (baby proofed) room of my house because they did anything and everything to get me (or DH) in there .. so I baby proofed the whole dang house (something I did NOT want to do..) took down the gates (I have no stairs in my current house).. and I have the most lovely little boys now (ok, maybe THAT’S a stretch  ). DH even said.. wow, that’s all we had to do, was take down the gate? :headbang:

Well THAT and baby proof ;)

I am so glad it was an easy fix and everyone can sleep again!!! I thought about buying a gate to keep my girls from going upstairs but after reading your post I think I better not! What made you decide to take the gate down was it by accident and it just worked or did you suspect it may be the cause?

Well, I kind of know my kids too well and it went against my better judgement to gate him in but I felt pressured to do it.

Everyone else gates their kids when they escape in the nite LOL so I felt I needed to. HA!

No, really. I thought it was the right thing to do.

So, I tried it. It didnt' work out so I took it down.

I was at my wits end.

I gave him a chance to prove he could handle it and he did it.

That's it. There was no magic to it.

He didn't like the trapped feeling AND he could get in and out of it anyway so it was just silly to even have it there. It just INFURIATED the living cra* out of him! Man alive!

As I mentioned previously, I never gated anything off (other than our one set of dangerous stairs) and never had any "off limits" areas for our kids) so they have no idea what it means when a gate like that goes up. He was probably really taken aback!

I have always been of the mind that they are going to need to respect things eventually so why not teach them immediately. My kids have always been quite good about it so I've never blocked anything off.

Good luck! For a time there, I thought we were literally going to have to call Supernanny in! Ha!
