Alimentum? Soy?

I am so sorry I am posting another question about reflux/gas issues, but nothing is getting better and we don't know what to do.
Every night around 5-6 it starts. It really gets going around 6:30-7. Nothing seems to soothe them. We try to feed them but one
cries at the bottle and her face gets red and she passes a lot of gas. We end up getting a couple ounces down at the most. Until about
9:00, we basically walk them around, bouncing, sh-shing, anything we can.

Could this possibly be a formula thing? Maybe they aren't agreeing with their formula? We tried the Similac Sensitive, but really didn't see a difference.
What about Soy? What about Alimentum? Are these worth trying?
Do these have the same nutritional contents? I guess in our heads we like the fact that the new Advance and the Sensitive say Iron and DHA ARA and all of that.
I've also heard of Nutrimegan (sp??). It's so confusing!

If this is colic and we just have to ride it out......WHEN DOES IT GO AWAY?

I am also pumping. I've cut out dairy starting today.

    Thanks girls!

Oh, and, we are already on reflux medicine. Prevacid. We were on Axid. Neither one seem to do anything for our
    evening extravaganza!!!!!!!!!!!!

DS was very gassy, and it went away when we switched him to Enfamil Gentle Ease (I heard Nestle Good Start is good too). The proteins are partially broken down so easier to digest.

You can try mylicon drops and gripe water also... They didn't work for mine but lots of people swear by then.

I was going to also suggest Mylicon drops and gripe water too. That seemed to help mine. We put a Mylicon drop in every bottle.

One of our boys, DS1, had bad troubles with colic the first 3 months. I took him off breastmilk and switched him to Nutramigen. I don't recommend that, we were just at our wits end. Nutramigen is just Enfamil's version of the same thing as Similac Ailumentum. It was night and day - like someone dropped off a different baby that weekend! I had told DH I wouldn't take him to daycare with him constantly crying and hurting and I was supposed to go back to work the next week. Needless to say we went straight for the big guns. It's expensive, but once we saw those smiles we never looked back. We just switched him off Nutramigen onto the Good Start this last week. If you can cut out dairy definitely try that first rather than taking him off breastmilk and mixing or supplementing with one of the other formulas where needed.

Good luck - we didn't get much help from our pedi on this. They just called it colic and said to ride it out. I couldn't do it though so we asked to switch the formulas to try to find one that worked and they said that was fine. I did read that most kids that have trouble with milk proteins (which may or may not be your son's problem) also have trouble with soy. It didn't work for us - bad constipation.

So, are you saying you don't recommend the nutr./alim.? That's what your first line says, but then you said your son was like a new baby. Was that just a typo?
I will cut out dairy, but I only pump for a couple bottles a day. I definitely don't breast feed exclusively, which is why I need the formula advice.

    Thanks so much!

I cut out all dairy and the difference, like a PP said, was night and day. My DD only had reflux, not colic, so I don't know if it works for the evening craziness, but for us, cutting out dairy was the ticket. She had been on Zantac, Prevacid and Prilosec and nothing worked. Within two days of cutting out dairy (and staying on Prilosec) she was an almost 100% happy baby. When we switched to formula, we had to use Nutramigen (Alimentum is basically the same thing, just different company). I tried milk and soy formulas, but the fussiness came back, so we stuck with Nutramigen. It's expensive, but worth it if you can no longer breastfeed.

    Good luck...
