They are 8 ounce cans that you pour into a bottle. You cannot just pop a nipple onto them, like you can with the Similac Advance ready-to-feed bottles. I'm trying to decide if these would be easier or more difficult to use than having powder formula measured into those little dispensers?

I'm going on a trip all day Sunday and will not have easy access to handwashing facilities, so I want to bring formula along in a way that will involve as little "touching" as possible. I don't want to use a cooler, since I will be gone all day and I don't want to take any chance of the formula spoiling.

I was actually thinking about buying those last night! I think they would be great to throw in a diaper bag. We're trying the ready-to-feed formula this week instead of the powder.

Honestly though, I use the powder dispensers all the time when we're out. You're going to need extra water anyway to rinse the bottles in between feedings unless you plan on taking enough actual bottles for the day. We are shakers so we just pour in the water and the formula, shake and serve.

That is the only way alimentum is sold here and my boys were on it for almost a year. Personally after making 124oz batches from powder every second night I Love love love the ready to pour!! No more coolers and thermos's for heating up bottles while on the go :) I always kept a can or two in the diaper bag at all times so we always had some available no matter what and didn't have to worry about how long it was open for or if I had good water to mix it with. I did get some of the powder form from the US but I found that it was very similar in price so I just stuck with the ready made we have here.

The only down fall is the ready made stuff here is only sold in boxes of 4 -8oz cans. So when I would go into the city I would have to buy 25 or so boxes to last me until the next time I got in and they took up a ton of space not to mention the all the garbage they produced.Despite that I think the conveince especially when your feeding two babies is well worth it!

I personally would think cans would be cumbersome to lug around. For the few times my kids had formula (like when they just HAD to have a bottle in the middle of church), we always used the powder dispensers. I would fill the bottle with water ahead of time to make it quicker to make when the need arose, then just pour the powder in, shake, and feed. You're not going to be touching the powder or the inside of the bottle, and if you're that freaked out about handwashing, carry some sanitizer in the diaper bag. Of course, this is also why I love breastmilk...you never have to worry about the packaging and its always sanitary! :p

    Thanks for that

I have done both the cans of Alimentum and the powder. I think you will have more waste in the cans and it's really messy. I much preferred putting the formula in a dispenser and then just having bottles of water ready to go.

LOL! Sounds like I will go with the powder--the LAST thing I need is messy cans to clean up. thanks :)
