So the boys are now really into tossing sippy cups off their chairs and everywhere, tossing food and clearing their trays when they don't like
something.... when I give them a stern "NO" they usually smile and/or blank stares. Any thoughts? Just an annoying phase? I feel like
at 15 mos they still working out cause & effect?

I have no idea why they do it but mine do the exact same thing. It's pretty annoying! The other thing mine do is if they have a bite of something in their mouth and then they see another food they will just spit out what's in their mouth.

Mine only throw food when they aren't hungry anymore, so I don't know what to tell you about that one. When they throw cups, we give them a stern no and pick it up. If they throw it again, no more cup. I just offer them a drink right before they get out of the high chairs if they lose their cup because of throwing it.

Definitely a phase, definitely annoying. I started taking things away. If they threw the cup, to the counter it went. If they threw food, off the tray it went. I would replace food with 1-2 bites at a time.

I have to say though, that we moved ours to the table at 18 months and started eating meals with them and there was a HUGE difference in cup and food throwing from that point on.

This is exactly what we do and they get it very quickly! A couple of months ago they learned the word "Accident" so now if a sippy falls off their tray they says "oops accident mommy!" For accidents they get it back, for throwing it across the room, its taken away.

Mine are going through the same stage as well. We take their sippys away when they toss them and stop feeding them when they throw it. It seems with ours, especially when the food is flying, they aren't hungry anymore. I'll be excited when this phase passes!

I have to say that I took Michelle's advice and it totally worked for us. The food and cup throwing was infuriating. We moved them to the table and it decreased drastically and at 2 we no longer have that issue at all.

    Thanks Michelle!!!!!! :friends:

We did/do what Michelle and Leighann do. And only very rarely do the girls purposely chuck their cups at this point. The food I've definitely noticed happens if they're not really hungry any more but again rarely happens at this point. They do however still like to pretend that their fork and whatever piece of food is on it at that point is a vacuum :umm: (I'm just hoping that they're still as enamored of the vacuum as they are now when they can actually use the stupid thing!)

I still ahve to be careful of this with Searra especially!! It's gotten to the point that I ask if she's swallowed her food and make her open her mouth to show me  because I was so tired of the lump of chewed food coming out! :bad:

I pretty much ignored and continue to ignore food and sippy throwing. The first time they throw the sippy, I pick it up and put it back on their tray. The second time it is thrown, it goes on the counter until the end of the meal. With food, I just put one or two bites on the tray at a time. That seemed to stop the food throwing for the most part. I had to make sure not to overuse the word "no" because it's like a really really funny joke to them. It sends them into a laughing fit every time. The throwing seemed less like a game to them when I ignored it and didn't use the word "no."

We've just now graduated to putting actual serving sizes of food on a plate for them.
