They won't go down for a nap! I know they are past tired and they have been crying for nearly a half an hour. It is getting dangerously close to the middle of naptime. Thier eyes keep closing like they are tired but they just keep screaming! I don't think I'm cut out for this CIO thing!

Can anyone offer some moral support?!

    It is breaking my heart!

It takes time. Hang in there. They will be used to it before you know it.

Before doing CIO though, how did they go down for naps. I put my boys in their crib awake for about a month. Then I shush pat them and walked out of the room when they fell asleep. I think that helped my boys learn it was nap time and kind of settled them down. Then when i decided to CIO, it was a little easier for them because they were familiar with the nap routine (being put in crib; not swing, noise maker, and lullaby CD).

    Sorry to ask...what is CIO?

I would rock/hold one until almost asleep and place in crib. The other would either fall asleep on his oun in a Boppy or a swing and then i would place him in the crib. Then sometimes one would wake back up and I would rock them back to sleep. I know that having them be somewhat alert when placing them incrib is key, and sometimes they were. It was just becoming too much and too complicated. Plus my back was starting to go out because I would inevitably end up holding them both at the same time.

I'm glad I decided to do this because the bottom line for me is they are growing so fast I need to make it clear that Mommy cant always hold both of them at the same time and it is ok to take a nap on their oun.

Ahh...okay, got it. Yeah, that's hard to do. DH is much better at it than me. How long are you supposed to let them CIO? Nicholas gets SOOO upset when we let him CIO that it seems to get him so worked up that he'll take even longer to calm down and fall asleep. Very difficult!!! [IMG]

So far all i can say is that every baby is different; as far as time limits on CIO. My DH sucks at it so I have had to start when he is working.

Our boys got so worked up that whn I went in to turn them I thought they had wet themselves when all it was was sweat!

How long have you been doing it? OOh! Your babies are too young to CIO... I think!

How old were your babies when you started CIO? I was thinking of starting for naps at about 4 months, but maybe waiting until 6 months.

I started CIO at 5.5 months and it worked great. We do have some days we bumps in the road so don't be surprised! Most of the time they'll go down with little to no crying and at other times they seem to just cry, cry, cry. Who knows!
