How do you refer to your LO's age?

So my mom calls me the other day and says "oh, the boys must be getting so big! They're almost 5 months!". And I said "no, they're 5 1/2 months - 22 weeks!"

I see her point. They were born on 11-4-08 so on April 4th they would've been 5 months but I've just referring to them by their weeks (probably cause it makes me feel like I conquered another week, hehe!) and they are 22 weeks --- 4 weeks in a month --- add them up and you get 5 1/2. And then look at my ticker; that says that they aren't even 5 months (okay, by one day but still!) So I was just kinda curious, what do you girls go by.

This used to confuse the heck out of my sleep deprived brain! I did weeks until about 4 months and then did it by months. I go by my ticker, just so I don't have to try and figure it out. I was so excited when my boys were 18 months and I could finally say a year and a half! I think I will start saying, "they'll be two in several months" when people ask.

It's too hard for me to figure out weeks now. I just go by months and sometimes lately I've ended up a month behind in answering peoples' questions as to my little boys' age. I'll probably still be saying "6 months" when they are 7 months, and so on. Time is just flying by too fast!

In the beginning, I counted in weeks then I just gave up and went to months. It was just easier!

But that's the problem, there aren't exactly 4 weeks in a month. (The only month with 4 weeks is February!) So if that were true, there would be 13 months in a year.

    52 weeks divided by 4 weeks = 13 months

I think it's pretty normal to count by the weeks until they're 12 weeks. After that you just use months, like "they're just past 4 1/2 months" or whatever. To be totally honest, the only people I've met IRL who count by weeks that long get a lot of eye rolls and confused reactions when they say it that way.

Just take their birthday, the 4th of the month, and every time the 4th rolls around they are another month older. No more confusion that way, because that's the standard. ;) That means your babies just hit 5 months, they're not 5 1/2.

Until they reached 3 months I refered to their age as [weeks]. For some reason I saw the third month as a marker. That, and a lot of people have to sit and think after so many weeks

Answer to PP: It's safe to count 4.5 weeks in a month ;)

I know, that was my point to the OP. She's counting 4 weeks in a month and that's why she's off on their ages. (Thinking they're 5.5 months when they're only 5 months old.) Because it's more like 4.5 weeks in a month.

Yeah, you'll definitely end up confusing people if you figure 4 weeks in a month! ;)
Like a few pp's, I said weeks until they hit 12 weeks (though when they were exactly 1 month, 2 months, I would say months) and now I go by months or half-months ... they hit a new month on the 6th of each month since they were born January 6th ...

I went by weeks until 2.5 to 3 months old. Now I go by months. I do halfs though (like 4 1/2 months). Now, that the babies next 'month' birthday is rolling around on Monday, I say "They'll be 5 months old on Monday." LOL

The whole weeks vs months drives me nuts! It would be so much easier if every month had four weeks in it. ;)

I go by months, I got enough on my plate to have to try and count weeks and figure that into it as well. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

On another note...Our twins share the same birthday and almost weights too!!!
    Yay for election day babies!!!
    That's so cool :)

Weeks until they were 3 months old, then did months and half months. What also got confusing for me was when it was appropriate to go from months to years? After they were 18 months, I just started saying 1.5 then almost 2, and now they are 2 and then I guess they'll be close to 2.5, etc, etc. It's always something, isn't it?
