after having twins, was #3 "big?"

So maybe I'm crazy for wondering this--- but I'm nervous that since my body held 11 lbs of baby last time, that it's going to "think" that it's ok for this next baby to get "big" before it decides to go into labor! Also, DH and his siblings were all very big babies- over 10lbs each. I REALLY want to VBAC this time but I'm nervous I either won't go into labor naturally because my body's going to wait until there's 10 lbs of baby in there, and then of course nervous that I'm not going to be successful pushing out a large baby and might end up forced into another c/s.

Anyone have any ideas how our bodies really work? Am I worrying for nothing?? What do you think?

My twins were 5 lb 6 oz and 5 lb 12 oz. My singleton was 8 lbs 12 oz.

My twins were 5 lbs 12 ounces and 6 pounds 2 ounces. #3 was 10 lbs 3 ounces.

Also, I had to be induced for #3 b/c I just wasn't going into labor and I wanted to avoid a C-Section.

So definitely a huge baby. But I pushed him out just like he was another 6 pounder. I pushed one time and they told me stop, ran and got the doctor, I pushed 2 more times and he was out. No big deal.

I think this baby is going to be big. My boys were six lbs each and that was at 35 weeks! So.. he/she will be big. I just have a feeling and I am NOT (pray) having a repeat c section!!

Our first was the biggest at 9lbs. Then 7lbs 11oz, the boys were 4lbs 8oz and 4lbs 15oz. This last baby, 6lbs 14oz, which surprised me. Definitly random.

well, the first thing to know is that it's not really our bodies that start labour, but hormonal changes started by the baby - so baby will come when ready.

i think it's a normal thing to worry about, but i also think that our bodies are designed to birth babies, even big ones and you will be okay. there was a story in the news a couple months ago of a lady in Vancouver who gave birth to a 13 lb baby vaginally & without pain meds! it's possible.

things that will help you stack the deck in your favor in having a VBAC are making sure you have a pro-VBAC care provider (have you thought about midwifery care?), a doula at your birth & making sure you're up on your feet or other more vertical positions for stage 2 (pushing). being more upright when you are pushing opens up your pelvis by a significant amount & helps baby wiggle their way down on through, regardless of their size.

Umm...yes, my #3 was gigantic. Twins were 7lbs each at 37w and Becca (#3) was 10lbs13oz at 40w5d. But she was delivered vaginally (though with forceps and her head was stuck, shoulders were stuck, and hips were stuck...yeah, that was fun  ) Sam was also big at 10lbs4oz. He was vag., too, though his shoulders got stuck, too. I just genetically make big babies. My mom had 9lb-ers (I was 9lbs11oz) and my grandmother had an 11 lb-er.

My boys were born at 38 weeks via scheduled c/s weighing 6 lbs 13 oz and 6 lbs 3 oz. Annabella was born at 39 weeks via repeat c/s and she weighed in at 7 lbs 9 oz.

    Twin A - 7lb, 7oz
    Twin B - 7lb, 11oz

    C-Section (sched. because of A being breech)@ 38 weeks

    Singleton birth - 10lb, 1oz

    VBAC

The doctor who did my c-section did everything right to ensure that I would have every chance to have a vaginal birth with any other kids. (two low horizontal incisions, no failure to progress report since my section was scheduled & no tears.

I was worried about the size of Evan in regards to a VBAC. I did find some doctors were a bit negative but I had made sure that the hospital/clinic was able to do VBACs. It turns out that if he would have been about 13 lbs, they probably would have put their foot down on my method of delivery. Since I delivered him (22 minutes of pushing) fine, it is as if I never had a c-section I was told later. :)

    Good luck! Enjoy your pregnancy!

I make tiny babies, the twins were preemie (31 weeks) and weighed 3 pounds a piece, my number 3 weighed just under 6 pounds at 42 weeks, my number 4 weighed 5 pounds at 40 weeks.

Why this is nobody knows, except for one of the twins my children are still smaller than average (and one even had a growth stagnation at ages 5 and 6 and is now 7 but looks about 4). My mother who is smaller than me in size and height produced 5 ten pounders and my ex-MIL also had 3 kids all 8 pounds and above.
I have worked in delivery and have seen babies not being able to be born vaginally who were 6 pounds and have seen a woman deliver a 13 pounder without major complications. Of course a very large baby may be a problem but our bodies are made in a way that "most" infants will be able to slide through the birth canal. At this point in your poregnancy I would not worry about it.

P/s: I had them all vaginally, all without drugs and it hurt the same way or possibly more to push out my eency weency 3 pounder than my twice-that-size 6 pounder. Pain and size do not correlate.

Forgot to mention that I delivered both times by c/sec. I had a vertical incision the first time so there was no way I could have a VBAC, it had nothing to do with his size.

    My kiddos were

    9lb 4
    8lb 9oz
    7lb 2oz
    6lb 15oz
    6lb 2oz and 6lb 4oz (twins)
    7lb even

So I think it's pretty random. You'll do fine!

My twins were 6 lbs 2 oz and 6 lbs 5 oz. My little one born 16 months later was 9 lbs 4 oz!!! LOL My DH joked that we gave him a penthouse suite to grow in and he was like a fish. Give him a bigger tank and he'll get bigger. ;-) LOL I'm only 5'1 so I was nearly as big with Ryder as I was with the twins! I ended up being able to do a VBAC and even though the labor was long that boy shot out! Seriously - 2 pushes and he was out! I'd heard that about big babies but never believed until it happened to me. He's just a big boy though. He's almost a year and nearly as big as his big sister! LOL

Owen and Kathryn were 5.4 and 7.2 respectively at 38 weeks, 1 day. Sullivan was 8.7 at 38 weeks, 6 days. I often wonder how big they would have all gotten had I gone another week or two. But for the twins, I think it was good we delivered when we did. It was pretty clear that Kathryn was taking/getting everything and Owen had simply run out of room to grow. Since I was a scheduled c-section with Sullivan my doctor never checked me so I have no idea how far along I was at 38 weeks or if I had progressed at all. I was 1 1/2 cm with the twins at 37 weeks, no contractions, no dropping, no turning, etc. I very well could have gone another three weeks - my Mom was like that. I wouldn't worry too much. I've heard plenty of women who delivered small babies say it hurt like crazy and women who delivered huge babies say it was easy. You just never know...good luck!

My boys were 5lbs 14oz each and I had a c-section with them after my labor stalled and heartbeats were dropping.

Baby girl was attempted VBAC, and she was born via c-section at 7lbs 8oz.

I was induced with her and labor progressed beautifully. She got stuck...literally. Forceps and all and with an epidural block (my left side would not go numb), I tried and tried but she was coming out sideways and her head got lodged on my pubic bone. Doc even had a heck of a time getting her out with the c-section she was so stuck. I tried by golly and I can't fret now knowing I did what I could to avoid the section...I'm glad I tried though.
