After coming off zantac

Over the past three weeks, we've gradually weaned Tal off her reflux medication, zantac. It seems like it was the right time as she's shown no ill effects and seems perfectly happy and comfortable.

I'd anecdotally heard of a baby who moved from the 5th back up to the 25th percentile after stopping zantac and so I'd hoped Tal might get a bit more of an appetite. Unfortunately, I don't think this has happened.

However, she has suddenly made huge physical progress. For months she knew how to roll, but never ever did so. If she was on her tummy she just flapped her arms and complained. She could sit for three months but still kept fall backwards.

In just 3 weeks she's taught herself to sit from lying, become totally stable when sitting and taught herself to crawl. She's even trying to pull herself up already. Her progess is quite remarkable.

I'm almost sure it's just a total coincidence that this all happened after we stopped the zantac.

But a little bit of me wonders if maybe the zantac was making her weak or dizzy? So I thought I'd ask if anyone here had had something similar?

This is very interesting, because we took Sophia off Zantac 2 month ago and switched to Prevacid. All of the sudden she became very mobile, taught herself to scoot on her butt with one leg behind her, her legs became strong enough to stand on them and she also learned how to sit-up from on-the-belly position. Also she gained an appetite like never before, we've never returned to the g-tube ever since she was taken of Zantac. Unfortunately Prevacid didn't help her with the reflux at all and we switched back to Zantac. Well, I will probably take her off that anyway, looks like it's not really a coincidence. Thank you for posting that.

I never noticed anything like that with zantac. My oldest was on it and she crawled at 6 months and walked at 9. DS is on it and prevacid and he has been crawling for about 5 weeks just fine. That is interesting how all that happened though. I'd be interested to see if others noticed that too, but I did not.

My girls were on Zantac from about 2-4 months old. My girls made a big jump in growth from the 5th to the 75th %s by 4 months, but I don't think the Zantac had anything to do with it because they made the growth milestone while on the Zantac. I think it was just from eating and nutrition, and catching up to the normal curve after being cramped in the womb. As they got bigger, the reflux and spitting up improved too, so I think that had something to do with it. I'm glad to hear your daughter is making such improvements!

We are still on zantac and Patrick is already 80% [IMG] but Kevin is only 20%, I wonder if when he goes off it, he will go up in weight too! Very interesting info, thanks for sharing it! [IMG]

    Interesting theory...

My mobile one (Joe) has much worse reflux than Nick. Joe rolled, crawled, pulled up, and cruised before Nick.

We're still on Zantac, though, so who knows what will come when we go off it next month.

At our 9 mo wcc we were still hovering around 12%. [IMG]
