After 18 weeks, can the babies still switch sides?

Hi, I was wondering, I'm 18 weeks now. Tristan is on my left side (he's baby A b/c he's further down) and Aidan is on my right....

Now I know that Aidan can turn into Baby A if he goes further down, and they can go from breech to vertex (and vice versa - right now both are breech) but what are the chances that Aidan will move to my left and Tristan to my right?

I want to name them based on which side they are not who is baby a or b, b/c I know that can change. I was thinking once they pick a side they will stay there....

SO that way when they come out regardless of who comes first I will know the one to the left was Tristan, and the one on the right Aidan.

Will that work, or can they still switch sides?

    Thanks,

    Liz

Hi there! Mine switched sides all the way up to about 30 weeks! It was really puzzling the sonographers every time I went in - Evi would be on the right, then Elsa would be on the right...I don't think it happens often, based on the reaction from my sonographers! But, obviously, it is possible! The sonogrpahers made a comment that maybe my membrane was horizontal as opposed to vertical which made this possible? Not sure why that would be the case, but I do remember them saying that...it was funny, we never knew which side they would be on! But I think I remember the last switch happening around that 30 week mark....

I have never heard of such a thing. I will be watching to see what others may say about this topic. Interesting. [IMG]

my ob said that babies never switch who is a or b, so I'm not sure what to tell you. My babies have flipped from breech to vertex to transverse, but never switched sides or positions in terms of a or b. now i'm curious....

I happened to ask my sonographer today in fact. She said they "guestimate" who is A and who is B at the begining... but that once they label them it stays the same (this may very on technicians also) Mine never switched sides and I can tell b/c B is a mover and shaker and A is very calm most of the time. They do however keep flipping... I just found out today A is breech and she has been head down the entire pregnancy until now ... 30wks! So I really dont know if that answers your question, but I hope it helps. PS dont worry you can name them and no matter where they go your docs and techs will keep them straight!

Thanks ladies!!! LOL so many different answers!!
I will then go with the doctors and sonographers will know who is who. Right now Tristan is an ounce heavier than Aidan, and last time he was too. So at least I have that for confirmation....

I will see what my OB says on the 14th. Will be real interesting, I'll let you all know....I wonder if all our docs will say something different, lol

I forgot to add that they were very aware of who my A and B were as Baby B (Elsa) was IUGR. So it was never a question of confusing the two babies - they really did move that much. Weird, huh? They were both positioned so funny half the time, butts up, sideways, you name it....
