Okay Ladies you are the experts!
DH and I are really struggling with this decision. Should we do the AFP testing? We are not going to abort the pregnancy is anything is found. I have read that we are more suseptible to false positives because we are having twins.

    What would you do?
If you did the test, what was your experience?

    Thanks,
    Jenn

We did it and got a false positive (as far as we know). The number they look for with twins is a 4.5 or lower and we had a 4.9. However, the u/s shows no gaps in their spines. I now wish I had not done it.

    I would say, skip it!

I know of a singleton mom who got a false positive and she was seriously stressed for 2 weeks between testing and u/s. I decided the risk of false positives outweighed any known risks dh and I had of any "abnormalities." Plus with as many u/s as we (twins mommies) get, I figured I'd find out anything we needed to know eventually. So dh and I decided to skip the test and it worked out well for us.

    Good luck with your decision.

We declined all those types of test with both my pregnancies. To us it didn't matter and nothing would change, so there was no need to do them.

    Welcome to Twinstuff BTW. :wavey:

Lots of false positives when carrying twins. I didn't do it with either pregnancy. My sister did it with her last pregnancy and it came back positive. She freaked out. They did an early u/s and SURPRISE! It was TWINS :)

We declined (with the blessing of our OB). We decided that if it were abnormal, we were not prepared to do anything about it any way so we left it in the hands of the creator.

Our OB said there are a lot of false positives for twins which is why he doesn't push it in that case.
