Does anyone have Aflac I have some questions on how it works. I have the short term disablity-Does anyone know if it will pay for bed rest? And second I have the Hospital Confinement policy too Does anyone know if it also pays the daily rate for the babies while they are in the hospital? It says newborns are covered from the start, I want to be prepared so it will make going down to one income a little easier! From what I find online people are fairly happy with the company I have been so far I hope it helps us like they say it will!

No personal experience, but I have heard GREAT things. Call your agent and ask, that's what they get paid the big bucks for.

I'm going to purchase a plan with them soon.

I have them, but I dont have those answers. I know that what I signed up for will kick in seven days after I go on disability. Disability could be me going on bedrest or it could be me having the babies...it doesnt matter...just the fact that Id be unable to work.
I agree that you should call your rep and ask...
    Good luck!

I had Aflac when I had the twins, I was not on bedrest though, so I can't answer your questions on that. However, I was paid for 8 weeks of a maternity benefit since I had a c-section, paid for the surgery and my time in the hospital...I think all together it came to about 4,500.00. I was not paid anything separate for the babies though, but at the time the policy was just for me so I don't know if that made a difference. I would definitely recommend it and talk to your Aflac agent with any questions about coverage for you and the babies. Good luck!

My policy is an individual policy, so as far as the hospital benefit for me I will just get for me. If you have a family hospital coverage policy and you LEAVE the hospital and they stay then I believe that is when it should kick in for them. While you are there everything to do with any sort of insurance is you from my experience.

They will pay for bedrest as well as maternity leave as two separate incidences. I had my agent double check to make sure, but you will have the STD waiting period both times. Oh, and double check with your agent, I found out this time that you can take 7 or 9 weeks off instead of 6 or 8 because they will pay up to 6 or 8 weeks... not counting your waiting period. If your waiting period is 2 weeks and you have a vaginal delivery and take only 6 weeks off you will be paid for 4 of them, if you take 8 weeks off you will be paid for 6 of them.

It's confusing but it was extremely helpful for me with my DD and I expect it's going to save us when I get on "bedrest" as eventually I will become too big to do my job.

yeah nancy that's what I'm confused about if the twins are covered when they are born since it's an indiv policy, it's worded weird so I'm gonna call my local guy, we had an ice storm so I had a lot of time on my hands but they weren't open when I called. And Sara that's good to know about the 7 and 9 week thing because of the 7 day waiting period. I know I'm excited about the possible bedrest pay too! Plus I have 5 weeks vacation and sick leave from work! This money will be at the right time!

Just as a warning, if you use your vacation or sick pay it will delay the start of your waiting period. You can't get paid for anything during the time you are claiming to be on disability, otherwise if they find out they will adjust it and ask for the money back. You can definitely use it before or after, but not at the same time.

My husband was an AFLAC agent for a year or so. He doesn't have all the answers committed to memory, but he can look it up when we get home tomorrow if you still have questions. He did say they will sort of force you to take the vacation/sick before they will pay benefits- he THINKS. So there may be a lapse in payment in your case. If you want, PM me tonight to tomorrow and I can have him look up the answers for you!

Thanks Kelly, I'm going to try and call our local agent this week. But if I still have questions I will know who to ask!

That might vary by state, I wasn't asked if I had vacation or sick pay to use first. I had the choice of setting up my start and end dates as the doctor saw fit but was told I couldn't get paid during that time.

How would they know if you had vacation time anyway?

I think alot of it varies by state from what other people have said in regards to waiting periods and such. Like here in Ohio you have to wait 10 months before they cover maternity leave (ive had mine 2 years) but Pennsylvania it's like 30 days!
