One of my DS's has many unique characteristics that I don't completely understand and am not sure if I should be concerned by. This is one of those things.

Jack will frequently & enthusiastically kiss and hug his stuffed animals, our cat, our dog... all kinds of non-human entities. But, he will not kiss or hug his parents! He has given me MAYBE 20 kisses ever in his entire life. Jacob gives an average of 20 kisses per parent per day, so he is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Jack does not really acknowledge receiving kisses either, although we give them to him regularly. He does like to sit on my lap with his back leaning against me, but does not really like normal hugs.

Is anyone else's child like this? He is otherwise socially interactive, though very good at ignoring when he wants to. He also is very easily overstimulated.

Any thoughts? Or is this just another quirk of my DS?

Alice is the same way. She's also the more intelligent of the two, and way more independent. She interacts with people just fine, but is very reserved when it comes to showing emotion (I'm the same way, and was when I was a wee tyke). She's not overstimulated easily though, she is constantly frustrated because she's unable to do what she wants, almost like she's understimulated and lashing out because she's bored.

I would say it's just a personality trait, and not one to be worried about in the least. Nadia was fiercely independent as a baby and toddler, and never once wanted to be held, snuggled, etc. Even as a tiny newborn, she did a lot better in a bouncy seat than in my own arms, LOL. She was always off doing her own thing, and wasn't affectionate in the least.

Karina is slightly more cuddly, but not by much. She always wants me in the same room, and then she goes about her business. She rarely gives kisses or hugs, and will come sit on a lap for maybe 10 seconds.

Kevan, however, needs to be touching me at all possible times during the day. If I am anywhere near him, he is on top of me....we often say that he's trying to crawl back into the womb.

    Funny kids!

My girls would rather hug their sippy cups than their mother! But watch out if I have a cool shirt on like wonder woman, they'll hug my shirt and I will sneak hugs in that way.
