I'm at the hospital now and have been since Friday. My blood pressure has been steadily rising (even on Procardia 20mg every 4 hours) and the swelling has gotten pretty bad, but my regular OB wasn't concerned as of last week when i saw her..anyhoo... So

Friday night I was having constant tightening, as per usual, that was extremely painful so I had my mom take me to the hospital since DH was on shift at the department. My mom was sure that I was in labor and I was sure that it was going to be nothing and I would be sent home...boy were we both wrong.

As it turns out when they did my urnine analysis to check for infections they found a significant amount of protein overload, so that combined with my high blood pressure, swelling, spotty vision and headaches made the on-call OB decide that I needed to be "observered" overnight to monitor my blood pressure and collect labs and more urine to rule out the possibility of pre-eclampsia.

Well, Saturday morning my labs came back elevated and my blood pressure and swelling were still an issue. They were still collecting urine at this point so we don't know what or how much protein is in there. Anyway, they said that I have pre-eclampsia and now it will be a matter of days before my baby boys will be delivered. They are trying to determine the severity of the pre-eclampsia right now but haven't gotten the labs back. As of this morning the urine analysis had not been finished and my blood platelates were down. So they are telling me it will be at least another day in the hospital to collect blood samples to see if my platelates keep declining.

Anyhow, the boys are perfect...8/8 fetal scores everytime, it's just me that can't handle the pregnancy.

I guess my questions are these, when were you diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and when did you deliver? Where you at the hospital until delivery from the time of diagnosis or did they send you home?

We are nervous (but I'm soooo ready) that the boys will come too early.

    Thanks.

I woke up one morning (34 weeks 5 days) and knew that I wasn't right. I called my OB, they did a urine dipstick in the office and sent me off to the hospital. I had a c-section that evening.

There is no "cure" for pre-eclampsia, just delivery of the kidlets.

    Best of luck!!

With my DD, I was on strict bed rest at about 28-29 weeks, in order to keep my blood pressure down - at that point there was no protein in my urine. However, my blood pressure was not going down, and I had maxed out on the meds for BP, so we induced at what we thought was 37 weeks and that morning there was significant protein found. We now know that we were WAY off on the dates and she was delivered at 35 weeks and despite getting an infection at delivery, she was perfectly fine. I know its a little different with twins, but she was perfect.

There is no cure for Pre-eclampsia - you just have to deliver. It is a dangerous and not good for you (or the babies), but it sounds like the boys are doing good, and at this point it is a matter of your health and safety.

Good luck, and thank goodness you are somehwere that they can watch you.

I was 35 wks when i went in for a normal check up and had a little high BP and was sent next door for monitoring, It was a thursday and my protien lvls was 1100 i "think",(normal 300?) they watched me over the weekend and then when my BP kept spiking they induced me on the following monday.. I think depending on how you are doing they may try to have you hold out to 34 weeks or if it gets too bad they will deliver you on the spot..

ETA: I was in the hosptial for 8 days total. 3 1/2 before delivery and 4 1/2 after. They couldn't get my BP to come down even after being on Mag for 30 hours after delivery. I ended up having to be put on procardia for a month and finally my BP came back down..

I don't have any advice for you, but I wish you and your boys well. Sounds like you are in good hands at the hospital. I'll be praying for an easy delivery and little time the NICU. Hugs!!!!

With my oldest I went to my 36 wk check up my bp was 180/120 and I had protein in my urine. They immediately sent me over to l&d and my blood tests were all abnormal and I delivered her 5 hours later. Of course at 36wks its easier to make that kind of call...I don't know what I would have had to do if it was much earlier. I was on mag sulfate for labor and 24 hours later. That stuff sucks but supposedly helps!

At a regular appt/ultrasound at 34 w 4 days, the tech noticed Baby A had low fluid (again - had this at 30 weeks also)...I was experiencing some of things you had, so they took my blood pressure and it was 160 over 110...the doc admitted me to the hospital and gave me the shots to help the babies' lungs...they waited 2 days to deliver (induced) so they could give me another shot...so the babies were delivered 34 w 6 days - very healthy...just needed to learn how to eat in the NICU. I was on the mag too...before and after the delivery.

Hang in there! You are doing great! Hope all goes well for you!!
