more questions......i wanted to stop using the ready to feed bottles that we used in the hospital so I went and bought advent bottles and playtex for newborns...
it seems like it takes them longer to get it out of the advent bottles and more time to feed them.. and when you have two babies at the same time how do you do it.. the ready to feed bottles they sucked down very quickly... so I am confused... the playtex bottles he didnt even get an ounce and I was feeding him for about 1 minute. anyone else having these problems?

I never used the Avent but I did start out with Playtex after bringing the girls home from the hospital. I first used the drop ins with the silicone nipples. It took forever for them to finish and that was just 2oz. I already had some of the Playtex ventaires also with both the small and wide nipples. I got all those ready to use and it turns out the small nipples had sealed shut when I boiled them for the first feeding. So basically, I had no luck with any of the Playtex bottles, the girls just didn't seem to take to them. I went out and bought a few Dr. Browns bottles and they ate so much better, so I switched to those and that is what I used till I finally phased out the bottles.

As far as taking a long time to feed them and how to do it. I always fed one baby and then the next a half hour later. I never could have done it at the same time.

Did you boil the nipples before you gave them the bottles? If not, the nipple hole might be too small.

I always fed them both at the same time. I laid a regular bed pillow in my lap and laid them head to head on it, so that they could both see me, and fed them that way.

You might try boiling them one time, and see if it opens up the hole a little bit and makes the formula flow a little faster.

We had the same problem with both Avent and Ventair. They like the plain old $1 store bottles and nipples. So we just decided why fight it? Saves us money! I have about 50 of the NICU nips and bottles left; we wash them and have used them over and over. The NICU pedi said that's fine as long as they're sterilized (in the dishwasher).

Hi! I use the Avent and boiling did help mine. Mine always eat slow especially now since they get distracted by their siblings. I feed them at the same time it doesn't take as long that way. At first, I wanted to cuddle them and so I would feed them one at a time. I usually put them in their bouncy seats and put one on either side of me and feed them that way. They both can see me and I can talk to them as well. HTH!
