I have been looking for DD5v3 in the past few weeks but could not find one in stock near me. I got impatient and decided to rebuild my Aero Precision M5 upper with a 16" barrel, but I am a little stuck when it came to picking an adjustable gas block and I need some guidance. My goal is to have a dedicated suppressed AR10 rifle. The idea is once I find the optimal setting on the gas block with a suppressor I will never touch it again since the suppressor will never leave the rifle. So I need something just as bomb-proof as the non-adjustable gas blocks. Which gas block would you recommend? I am researching three adjustable gas blocks at the moment:
    • Aero Precision - It has a tiny detent spring and a ball and I don't know how durable they are withstanding the hot gasses
    • Superlative Arms - I don't think I will ever use the bleed off feature. IMO the design is slightly better than the Aero since the detent is captured and as far as I can tell it is not on the path of the hot gasses.
    • SLR Sentry - I like it a lot. Seems more durable than the other two. They replaced the detent spring and ball with this "plate" on the side that is secured by an additional screw. But that screw could potentially walk out at some point which concerns me.

And I know what will happen... I will complete this build and DD5v3 will get in stock somewhere near me and I will not be able to resists. But still, building stuff is fun and I have never built an upper with an adjustable gas block, so I am looking forward to it.

    Thanks!

I see it's been a while since you’ve posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone here has tried running an AR10 suppressed with one of those newer bleed-off style adjustable gas blocks? I’m curious how they hold up long-term compared to traditional restricting types. I’m thinking of swapping mine and wondering if there’s a noticeable difference in recoil and gas-to-face.

I ran into similar overgassing problems on my build and ended up swapping the gas block out for an adjustable one, which helped a lot with smoother cycling and less gas to the face. Got a complete AR15 upper assembly and used that as a baseline for parts matching—worked out great once I dialed in the right setting for suppressed shooting.
