    Hi there,
I am so glad someone referred me to you guys!! Just found out yesterday we are having twins, we are currently 7w4d. I have a call into my doctor (U/S was done at the hospital, not his office) to find out what I need to be doing differently. He went in for surgery himself today, so I may not hear back right away and I want to get going asap on anything that these little ones might be needing. I have seen additional folic acid, but how much more?

    Thank you!!

I was on a regular prenatal vitamin, which had 1000mcg (I think) of folic acid. I was not told to do anything differently because I was carrying twins, except to have more frequent appointments with the OB as we got later into the pregnancy.

Congratulations, and welcome to Twinstuff - be careful, it's addictive.

Congrats and welcome!!! I am confident you will find many supportive answers here!!!

As for additional vitamins, I just took a regular pre-natal vitamin, although the doc did want me on the presciption variety (don't remember how they varied from the OTC varieties). Later in my pregnancy, I took an iron supplement, but that was due to other issues.

I did take additional folic acid, my OB told me to when we found out it was twins. But I can't remember how much, sorry.

Welcome to Twinstuff and congrats on your twins. I would encourage you to join our Big Sister Program. You will be matched up with another Mom with older twins and she will support you throughout your pregnancy. Click on the link in my signature for more information, it's a great program.

I was told to take 1000 mcg of folic acid throughout the first trimester, as well as Fish oil for DHA/ARA. Now I just take the regular prenatal, Fish oil, and Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc supplement.

I was told to take the prenatal, extra folic, calcium and iron.

I also decided to take fiber and omega 3 for the babies' brains!

:hi: Welcome to TS! I was told that regular prenatal vitamins were basically the same as prescription prenatal vitamins. I was told I didn't need take any more than what was taken during a regular singleton pregnancy! If you watch what you eat, you should be getting the vitamins you need with the regular foods you eat!

I was told to take calcium, magnesium and zinc 3 xs a day. I also take Fish Oil 3xs a day. I take my prenatals once a day too. Recently I have also added an iron supplement because my blood work showed low iron. If you have Dr. Luke's book, it helps explain the benefits of all these vitamins as well. Good luck and congratulations!!!!

I took a regular prenatal vitamin plus a calcium and folic acid supplement. As I got further along, I got a bit anemic and started on iron supplements as well. Congrats on your twins and welcome to TS. This is an awesome site!!!
